SoCal Gray

Yesterday I went to a niece's baby shower at a home in Malibu.

I took this westward facing shot from the balcony. While friends back east would have loved the relatively mild weather (it hit 82 degrees, wasn't hotter, which I'd dreaded), nobody here loves the fact that we've had zero rain. January through March, these hills have their best chance of being green, which turns to gold as summer approaches, and then in the autumn, turns this dingy grayish brown, when wildfire danger is at its height. But the wildfire danger is at its height now, which makes the prospect of the rest of the year scary, unless the Jet Stream gets out of the middle of the country and back to the west coast where it belongs.

But since we're helpless to do anything about it, I'll leave it at that, and post the almost-sunset picture. No colors yet (we were inching along Pacific Coast Highway through the beach traffic when the colors came) but I thought the shadows, the subtle variation in the sky, worth snapping, since I don't often get chances like this.
