Some monstrous thing split The thin, skimmed, milk-quartz studded sky That the aeons beyond might press through the wound Making this time bleed every kind of light; Some titan - or trickster, most like: Making the scarred night grin.
I saw it once from the Grapevine. No street lights to interfere, and it was a clear night.
But the more impressive sighting of it was in the wake of the Northridge quake in '94. The sun wasn't up yet, and the power grid failed for some hours. I looked up from my front porch and there it was. And that was impressive.
