Two quick things
Two quick things before I hunker back in my bunker:
One, "Drag Queen Astronaut" by Sandra McDonald, which I thought terrific.
Two: this post in which papersky talks about protagonismos--the quality of being the kind of person that stories happen to.
I think this is different from being able to tell stories (some have the ability to make small things interesting, and then there are those who lived through world-shaking events who just shake their heads and mutter "I went places. I did stuff I'd rather forget.").
There is also another sort of person, at least in my head. When my brain is squeezed dry I tend to take down letters or journals to read, and last night I took down Arnold Bennett, whose journals 1896-1929 are just fascinating, and it occurred to me before I turned out the light that he, and Boswell, and Pepys, and some others like that are people who are not the sort of people stories happen to, but they see the entire world as a story, and record it that way.
