Debsliverlovers is a site for another fundraiser for a specific purpose. Deb Mensinger has inherited a liver disease requiring her to get a liver transplant. Her brother is willing to be a donor, but like so very many people, has no insurance. He cannot afford to do this generous thing for his sister

A live donor needs to have insurance to donate? I am just constantly flabbergasted at how wrong-headed our system is.

This. I am still confused as to why her insurance wouldn't be paying for his surgery as well, but, well. The system is definitely wrong-headed.

I suspect her insurance is exceedingly skimpy as well.

I've had family members go through the liver transplant process in the past year, and my dad lost a sister to kidney failure years ago. It's terrible that the willing donor's lack of insurance is the prohibiting factor in this case. I'll go offer something.

I'm pretty thrilled that I now actually have something nice that I can make quickly and cheaply enough to offer it on fundraiser sites.
