Vampires and the Zeitgeist

I always feel a little frustrated when I'm sensing a commonality of some type, but all I'm getting is similarities of image from books/tv/whatever. It always seems to take me far longer to get the simplest clue than anyone around me, as well as to define it.

But hey, I decided some time back that blogging is only worthwhile (for me) to throw ideas out there and see what others think. Even if they think "dumb!" I learn something. So given that, just before I woke up a little while ago, I put words to the thematic dialog I perceived in all the vampire stuff I've read since spring, while working on a project.* To choose difference is not to choose evil is the best way to characterize it. Social subjects. Personal. Sexual. Philosophical. Shooting back and forth in all directions.

In so much of the older fiction, difference was evil. Led to evil. Arose out of evil. I finally (I think) characterized the paradigm shift I kept sensing.
