Trompe-l'oiel

afraclose linked to this marvelous basement trompe-l'oiel, made by someone with a steady hand, an imagination, a sense of humor, and a bunch of Sharpie pens.

Right before I moved out for good, LAX summarily took over our neighborhood, so the houses became worthless, and my parents let me paint a trompe-l'oeil on my walls. I painted scenes from stories, of course--peering up through leaves at distant sights I'd been writing about for years.

The spouse is afraid I'd ruin the property's value, or I'd do it now. But I look around my walls sometimes, and imagine what I'd make. There would be windows into other worlds, a spiral stairway to the liminal library right over there between the closet and the entry to my loft library. Over the big entry to the bathroom (which was really stupid planning on the architects' part) there's be a massive panorama of a storyscape. In corners might be priels with certain people peeking in.

anyone else ever plan such things?
