When I was a kid, Catcher in the Rye was still forbidden in schools, though not with the intensity of the previous generation. I remember checking it out and taking it to the beach as my afternoon read when I was 13. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't a long-winded, whiny, incredibly boring egomaniac, and I was so disappointed I finally fell asleep in the sun with the book half read. Not much of a book when all it can promise is seeing cuss words in print.
Well, between then and now the P that B have determined that this book is to be taught in schools. It would be interesting to discover approaches, but in the meantime, kids now have Holden as an assignment. The result? A teenager's
parody. This is exactly the sort of thing I would do.
