so this morning around 1am i dislocated my jaw. naturally i freaked. andrew was with me when it happened, and he freaked too. my jaw was stuck open. i couldn't close it, and when i tried to close it for swallowing the pain was so intense. in fact, i could hardly swallow. andrew looked it up online and first read to alternate between putting hot and cold on it and in between massage the jaw. so we tried this for an hour, but when we realized it wasn't doing anything we did some more research. the next thing said that my jaw was most likely dislocated and that i'd have to push on my lower jaw to reset it. uh there was no way i was able to do that to myself. fortunately april had a friend spending the night, so at around 2:30 we went to the hospital.
i was hooked up to heart moniters, had an oxygen tube and had an iv put in my arm so that they could inject pain killers (i got three shots of versed to relax my muscles and reduce the pain). then the doc had to push my jaw back. all i felt was lots of pressure and it took him longer than expected. finally around 4:45 my mouth was able to close all of the way. i was told however that i had to hang out there for a half an hour or so to let the medicine wear off. well 30 minutes turned into 75. one of the doctors came in at 6 and was like "you're still here?!" and unhooked me and let me leave.
overall it was a very scary experience, but i'm thankful that my roomie and her friend were patient and waited for those three hours with me at the hospital. and most of all i'm thankful that andrew was by my side for every minute of it to hold my hand <3
