In his hand he held a cocktail glass filed with red wine. The hand that held the glass was as white and slender as a ballerina's, every nail painted with scarlet fingernail polish. An Uzi was slung over his shoulder, and he wore a stuffed backpack. Probably full of bombs.
I don't care what anyone else says, okay. I love these books.
EDIT: OKAY I have two other books at approximately the same distance:
I hurried through the gloom without a path, always searching, searching, searching, getting more frantic as the time stretched on, trying to move faster, though the speed made me clumsy... Then there would come the point in my dream - and I could feel it coming now, but could never seem to wake myself up before it hit - when I couldn't remember what it was that I was searching for. When I realized that there was nothing to search for, and nothing to find. That there had been anything more than just this empty, dreary wood, and there never would be anything more for me...nothing but nothing...
That was usually about when the screaming started.
American masterpiece hell yeah.

In short, the General Secretary is confronted with the task of forging a coalition within his Politburo on virtually every major issue. The Politburo represents in its members a wide variety of institutional, regional, and, in some cases, clientele interests. Consequently, there are enormous pressures to promote those individuals whom the General Secretary has long known and trusted and, most importantly, who are obligated to the General Secretary for their career advancement.
Despite this snippet, THIS BOOK IS ACTUALLY INTERESTING OKAY.
