Apparently when I sign up to a challenge with many fandoms offered I end up writing fic in three of my top five favourite shows. Go figure.
The Newcomers (Hannibal, 3.2k, Hannibal/Will, E, Graphic) Will and Hannibal make a new life for themselves in an obscure village.
Too Everything (Whitechapel, Chandler/Kent, 1.6k, M) Chandler runs into Kent at a gay bar
In the trailer (Sense8, Lito/Hernando, 1.6k, E) Hernando visits Lito at work
I saw on a Discard chat that some people like reading about people's writing processes so I figured I'd give it ago. Mostly I just throw things at a page and see what sticks.
Hannibal - I struggled mightly with this, to the point where I lay awake one night convinced I should default, but it came together in the end and I like how it worked out, yay.
I'm not super confident about writing in US/Canadian fandoms, but I included Hannibal in my offers because I love it and because I've written a couple of small fics when I was most into the fandom, but that was a while ago and I wasn't really expecting to get matched on it (as you do). Then when I went to start writing I couldn't 'hear' the characters in my head anymore, which is always a worry with American fandoms for me. So I rewatched some canon and started writing the fic 'around' Will and Hannibal.
The prompt I was working from was 'Will being possessive of Hannibal at any point in the timeline', and I've always wanted to write a post-series happy ending for them, so I kept it simple and wrote an OC for Will to be jealous of.
I set it in a small village and wrote some scenes with various other characters views of the newcomers, and added short dialogue scenes with the two of them interspersed. All of the scenes are quite short, and not all written in order, until I came to write the plot point that ends up with their coming together, at which point I finally felt like the characters were properly in my head and I was just transcribing what was going on I sat on my patio and wrote that entire scene in one sitting. I love that feeling.
I then wrote a couple more scenes to finish setting up their new life together, outsiders' perspective again and their pov for their very domestic happy ending.
I gave it to my bff to read, who liked the flow of the fic but felt that the sex scene was too detailed and explicit to fit the feel of the story and of course she was right, so I cut out some and toned down the explicitness a bit. I did leave most of it, even though it was longer than the other scenes because it was literally the part of the story that filled the Will being possessive prompt.
Once I had a draft of my main fic I could start on treats. Very short and came easy, not really a lot of process going on.
Whitechapel - Wrote this because Whitechapel, yay, and because MildredMost stepped up to beta for me for my Yuletide fic and because the undercover in a gay bar is always fun to write. I then dropped Chandler into a loud sweaty club to wait for a contact for an unspecified reason (I spent way too long being worried that I didn't have a valid reason for him to meet a contact in a gay bar until I remembered I was writing a treat and moved on). And then I had Kent show up. And that was it really, the entire fic is Chandler (who has OCD) reacting to his surroundings and then to Kent's arrival. I did remember to reference the missed contact at the end, go me.
Sense8 - Then the day before the archive I looked on the Treatless sheet and saw that someone who had written me an awesome Yuletide treat years ago (CousinShelley) was requesting Sense8 and I fucking love Sense8, so I took the prompt of having one of the canon couples have sex and wrote 1.6k of 'porn with feelings'.
(and ha, turned out the Treat I received this year was by CousinShelley too, same fandom as before)
And then, because there was still some hours before the archive opened, and I still had a commute to work I found another treatless prompt I could do and typed on my little laptop steadily for 20 minutes on the train while staring randomly out the window, only to realise when I went to close up that a updates window had popped up shortly after I'd started so I had nearly nothing and at that point I knew I was done :)
