Domain Registrars

Mar 23, 2015 12:27

Friends don't let friends use Network Solutions. They are absolutely diabolical.

Go through another registrar such as hostek.com, nearlyfreespeech.net, or, even, yes *sigh*, GoDaddy <- Though I do NOT GoDaddy them due to some underhanded shit they've been known to pull, but they're still leagues better than NS.

My partner, after TEN YEARS is finally on the road to getting his domain out from under them. If you don't believe me, here's an e-mail we got from Nearly Free Speech (which is hilarious):

Hello,

We are sorry to report that your inbound transfer of the domain name
________________ was unsuccessful.

There are various reasons why this can happen:

- The auth info code provided (aka the "transfer secret") may be incorrect.
- The current administrative contact may not have approved the transfer.
- You or the current administrative contact may have objected to the
transfer.
- The domain may have been registered or transferred within the last 60
days.
- The domain may be locked or suspended.
- The other registrar may be an ancient, soulless creature from beyond the
stars formed of crystallized hate and madness, from whose black-hole-like
maw nothing can escape.*

Any one of the above reasons is sufficient for a transfer to fail.
Regrettably, we don't know which one is the case.

The good news is that the funds associated with this transfer have been
returned to your account, and you can try this transfer again anytime you
want.

Sincerely,
NearlyFreeSpeech.NET Member Support

*Although unlikely, this possibility can never be entirely ruled out in the
domain registration business.

THEY ARE NOT KIDDING.

If you think myself or NFS.net is exaggerating, check out their Yelp Reviews.
