Cock for Dinner

In a flashback from my childhood, the Polish black rooster has attacked almost everybody out here, some on a weekly basis. He especially likes to go for Kids. Keigan has been attacked many, many times and had made a game of fending him off. But he scratches Keigan's little brother and it's all over. As a kid I was made to go feed the chickens every day, or I'd get smacked. That rooster ALWAYS went for me, then one day it scratched my little brother.

At least this one became a meal, mom just killed and buried out Rhode Island Red.

Pete (thankfully) stepped in and took care of the slaughter. I had work I was desperately trying to get done before heading to Woodinville, and I think I would've clobbered that kid before doing anything to the rooster, he thought the whole thing was funny.

I'm not sad, that beast's days were numbered, and I think he got at least twice as many as I had assumed he'd get.

The Landlord baked him up with some carrots & potatoes (note to self, ask what spices she used on the taters-those were fantastic). I carved off a thigh. Damn that was one athletic bird, he had zero fat on him and the outer muscle was like a tire wall. NOT the chef's fault at all, though if we'd known the bugger was that tough I think he would've been stew or cacciatore instead.

In other news, there are now two lambs on the farm. They are even dumber than I remember. St. Croix mix hair sheep, meaning they shed & don't need to be sheared. One more thing for my daily routine, get the goats out of their pen, leave the sheep in, and feed them. The sheep have seen the goats eat, but they won't go near the food area. So I put it in the center of the pasture and use their extreme phobia of humans to get them to their lamb pellets.

These buggers had better be fing tasty. Mmm, Gyros.

Baby ducks: I heard a quack today! I've now taken to herding them to the pond and back instead of carrying them. They don't like the pond much, though that may have something to do with me throwing them in. They found the leach field, and were filthy and stinky. They weren't going back in their cage without a trip to the pond.

Went to laughingcoyote's tonight to watch the first installment of Game of Thrones. From what I remember they've stuck admirably close to the book. There was a bit of hawtness and very good cinematography. No complaints here at all.

WAY too much to do before Norwescon, and it's not even convention related. Meeting in Oly Tuesday, and we head to NWC either Thursday Morning or Wednesday night.

sheep, chickens, rooster, ducks, game of thrones
