Got up early (for me, anyway) and went to break the ice on the goat's water, fed the pig, and let the chickens out. Some opted to stay, the others eventually found their way through the snow under the porch, I'm hoping they'll wander back to their nesting box soon.
Velocirooster perched on the wood pile and refused to move, save to escape from me. I easily caught him after he'd been standing in the snow for two hours and placed him on the perch in the chicken pen, where he remains.
We have plenty of food, but I'd like to go into town for bacon and cheese, I think I'll pass, however. The road here is white, and likely slick.
Turns out Jerry had got Barn Dry for the pig, Mike helped me dump it under her house. Calf-deep mud, finally found a stick to prop up the house with. The pig decided this was a prime time to get in my way. Trying to chase her out from under her shelter while dumping Barn Dry in, she helped a little in pawing it towards the rear of her home, but generally made a nuisance of herself trying to scratch on the perilously propped up shelter.
I'm filthy and the house doesn't have water, so we can't do laundry. Bugger.
I'm looking forward to it getting above freezing. Glad we emptied tanks and filled up propane Sunday.
Good news: On his 4th go-round, Mike made successful bread! Home made bread and blackberry jam... Makes me feel positively 1800s.
The Beastie is cozy, and draped in icicles. I imagine we're burning through propane at an alarming rate.
Jerry hooked up electricity to the chicken pen! The girls have a heat lamp! They're all crowded under it like a feathered cocktail party. I hope it stays up, quite a load off my mind. Hopefully the pig will make it through the night, and the goats, though I think those two troublemakers should be fine.
A Prius just slid by the house, backwards. Followed by two women having a much better time on a yellow sled. Bobbie went out to get medicine, I'm justifiably concerned about how she'll get the last 100 yards home.
She made it!!!! Oh phew.
