we were on our way home (Portland) from (?) where we'd been camping, and we saw it happen. It was freakin' awesome, in the real meaning of awesome.

I also wish we'd kept the jars of ash.

I remember hearing it had happened and it not meaning too much, as here on the west side it had almost no effect on us. I was excited about it because I thought school would be closed, but no such luck. Around a week later we got about 1/2" of ash on our deck, but nothing like those of you on the east side of the mountains.

Even my grandparents in Pennsylvania said they got a dusting of it. I heard it circled the earth eight times or something.

So now I'm wondering it that's going to be true with Eyjafjallajokull; that eruption is WAY bigger than St. Helens.

Living in Portland when mt eruption, wow, doesn't seem 30 years ago. We left Oregon in 1986, and now 24 years later, want to return to Northwest, but life has changed too much. Furry freak bro
