Mom makes it out to the new parking space.

Woof

So we get back from camping, shower, and Bev drives us to pick up Mom from the 10:00 ferry. We set her up to stay in the second RV -oh, Grandmother asked where she'd be staying and Mom gave the address and added "Unit 2A" Which my grandmother dutifully wrote down- and proceeded to discover the fun little quirks and nuiscanses that come with buying a used vehicle.

  • The plumbing under the sink leaks-pretty bad, if the water pressure is on.
  • The 'porch' light is out
  • The gas gauge doesn't work(we hope, at this point)
  • The input for the water tank is a pain in the ass to use
  • The dining table is way more of a pain in the butt to set up than the one in this RV.

Minor stuff, really, but a little embarrassing when you're entertaining guests.

Mom slept well, anyway.

The next day I was up at 7AM. That kind of "Oh shit! Wake up! You have stuff to do!" waking up. Urg. Mom was still asleep, so I made coffee for everyone. We hung out for awhile, I brought the goats out for her to see and then invited Bev to breakfast hoping she'd drive as my Golf is being a PoS. Mom loved having 3-year-old Mercy to entertain. She's nuts about kids.

We wandered around the outdoor store, which was way more hunter-centric than I'd anticipated-I'd been thinking REI, but at least there's a close place for camping gear.

We made the mistake of heading to the fruit stand. Mom just about went overboard, what is it about travelling and roadside stands that people get excited about shit you can get at any grocery store ANYWHERE?! "Oh look! Fresh corn!" In Mom's case it was nectarines, corn, cilantro, and I talked her out of apples, as the tree out back is pretty heavy with them.
I picked out a coconut and proceeded to chase Mercy around the fruit stand with it. Later in the car she became pretty attached to it, starinf at it's little 'face'; she was just short of naming it, so I let her hang onto it.

We drove to the park on the bay, Mercy played in the playground, I wished I had brought bread, as the birdlife looked receptive. Mercy found a bunch of shiny confetti stars in the sand by the picnic tables, Mom convinced her she could use her little girl magic to put them back in the sky.

Mike wanted nothing more than to go home and shuffled about, moaning. He was still pretty wiped from the camping trip, and spent most of the rest Saturday in the RV taking it easy.

Back into the car, Bev stopped so Mike & I could get lattes, and we headed home. Everyone took a nap, then Mom got sucked into watching Up Pompeii with Mike.

Mom, myself, and the two goats took a long, pleasant walk around the logging area/wetland down the road. We went farther than I'd ever gone out there, the goats were exhausted by the time we turned around, reduced to half-lidded plodding from their usual frolicky selves. I used Mom's camera to take pictures of her with the girls. She picked Flora up, distrubing one of the ruminant's stomachs, she let out a lound belch.

We returned home around dusk, and I started dinner.

Charlie took the flamethrower to the barbecuse and we cooked up buffalo burgers and corn. Charlie cracked open the coconut, OMG, I forgot how good those are. I'm glad Mercy wasn't sad to see it broken open. Mike, Mom & I ate in the new RV. After dinner Mom & I joined Charlie & Mercy by the fire sacrificed marchmallows to the fire gods and made smores. Bev showed up later and the four of us sat up talking until 11 or so.

I made sure Mom was comfy and got back to work for a bit. Mike & I watched a couple Britcoms and I managed to drift off (HA!).

Up at 9 this morning, aquired a bunch of client stuff Mom had brought me from my Pullman clients, made coffee, and got Mom hooked on Google Earth. You shoulda seen how squeaky she got when she saw that you could pan to a 3-D view. "This is like PORN!" she said.

Whipped the Golf to the airport diner for famous fish & chips, then on to Bremerton to drop her off at the ferry.

We stopped to get a distributor cap for the Golf, go home, work, and pass the hell out for two hours.

It was really good to see Mom, and a little relieved to be back in the saddle after five days with two clients breathing down my neck. The next major order of business is acquiring building supplies, upending our living space, moving into the Lindy and rebuilding this RV. It's looming like a nightmare I haven't had yet.

Flora the goat has been a source of both entertainment and annoyance as she keeps getting out of her pasture, and while now smart enough to wait until we're not around to escape(so we can't see where she's getting out), she can't resist coming over to visit, hence limiting the extra grazing time to perhaps half an hour. Also, Dulcinea is a tattle-tale, breaking into insitent "maa! maa! maa! maa!" when her herdmate acquires better grazing, leaving Dulcinea incarcerated in the pasture. The smaller LaMancha either hasn't figured out how, or isn't strong enough to push her way out.

Mike finally found where Flora was getting out this evening, as she got her little horned head stuck during the attempt.
