This is why I’m in bloody Belgium again.
*nods* I can sympathise, I've been to Belgium ;)
I did Virgil in Latin in school but sadly I don't remember him getting up to anything like this!

But very, very funny, and very well done :)
Yay! I haven't got much confidence in writing comedy so horray! =)

You mean the ancients weren't all secretly lusting after each other! *gasps* I must've had my slash goggles on when I read about Greek/Roman gods then!

I think you write comedy very well! You should write more of it :D

Don't be silly, of course they weren't! There was nothing secret about it! ;) I adored classical mythology as a child and still do in fact (hence my username) but sadly Virgil will be forever associated in my mind with Higher Latin.
Btw have you read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials? There are two heartbreaking winged gay angels in the latter half of the trilogy.

Once my angsty plot bunnies have run its course. Though... I have a vague idea that I want to do something humourous for my Sin prompt.

You're right. Their artwork speaks for itself.
I'm curious. In Dan Brown's Angels and Demons Robert Langdon says that the Pope ordered the castration of roman statues in St Peters. Did that actually happen?

It's always been Dante for me, even though I've only read half of Inferno.

I have, but that was almost a decade ago! I don't remember much about it except that there's a talking polar bear, stardust and a knife that can cut through dimensions.

I have been to the Vatican but I honestly can't remember if the statues were "intact" or not! However castrating, emasculating and covering the genitals of statues was a popular pass time at various stages in history. The Turks did it to the statues in the Parthenon and took their noses off too for good measure. And the Victorians were pretty keen on adding fig leaves to statues to preserve their modesty. I believe this happened to some of the Vatican statues too.

Ooh read it again! You missed the gay angels! Did you get the AoS references?

And I am very much reminded of Pellew's comment to Duchess about the state of the statues in Florence.

Gay Angels and AoS references? Now I really must read it again!

Haha! Yes indeed.

Baruch and Balthamos are the angels. There is some debate as to whether they are both actually male. Seems perfectly clear to me though, and that's without the slash goggles!
Will Parry is (presumably) named after Sir William Edward Parry, RN commander and polar explorer. Parry served as a midshipman with Cornwallis at the beginning of the 19th century and later sailed to the Arctic with Sir John Ross. He also spent some time in Australia and apparently there is a Parry County in New South Wales named after him.

The names sound pretty masculine to me!
Will Parry is the hero of the story?
Oh and awesome! An Australian connection. =) And reading his Wikipedia page, it says that there's also a crater on the moon named after him.
Speaking of geographical namesakes, I would like to go to the Sir Edward Pellew Group of Islands in the Northern Territory one day. *g*

Yeah, you've actually got to squint really hard to see them any other way!
Will Parry is the hero of the story?
Yup, Will Parry is the hero, and his father John Parry is the missing polar explorer who discovers the Northern Lights.
If you're interested in the real early polar explorers including Parry, Ross and Franklin I've got a review of Frozen in Time over at my LJ. It was one of the first things I posted!

I used to love reading about Antarctic/Artic explorers!

I hope that was sarcasm there. ;) It's a good place for deep water fishing, apparently, and has some interesting wildlife and fauna, especially marine wildlife. I don't even know if tourists are allowed to set foot on it!!!!!!
