The heat from his funeral pyre was depressing.
It wasn’t exactly how he expected to die, crucified and burning to death in a medieval church under the baleful stare of a spear-wielding angel.
The angel. Through the haze of smoke he could clearly distinguish the wavy hair framing his delicate features, hair that shone like molten gold in light of the flames. He grinned at the familiarity of it. He’ll never admit it to Illya, but saving his partner’s back in absentia was a hell of an accomplishment.
Slowly Napoleon began to rub his bound hands on the angel’s spear.
