Sort of. I wish I had more than a hazy recollection of the details, but someone on lj (I think?)relatively recently mentioned the story "A Witness to Courage" by Naomi (aka Beauvallet) suggesting that this painting was the perfect illustration for it. It's an older story--not found on lj, to my knowledge--which was written for a 'zine and later submitted to the Yahoo hhfic egroup.

I'm not sure what counts as relevant. Does it have to a battle or naval scene?

No. As long as the painting describes something that happened during the Age of Sail, or is of objects/persons related to the Age of Sail, it's okay. Which painting were you thinking of?
