I struck matcha, yay! This means
green tea cupcakes -- even more yay!
I love it when you completely give up on finding something, only to trip over a few days later. When I couldn't find any matcha at Whole Foods, I figured these cupcakes weren't meant to be. However, today I went looking for The Republic of Tea's Chamomile Lemon at the grocery store, bent over to pick it up, and found myself eye to eye with matcha tea bags -- the only canister of it that the store had, too. I figured it was worth a shot.
It's absolutely gorgeous. This puff of green powder came out of it when I popped the lid off. Naturally, it gravitated toward the white beadboard in the kitchen, but, um. The inside of the can is covered in green powder that seeped out of the tea bags -- it looks like some distant cousin of pollen, the way it's clinging -- and it has a nice light, earthy taste to it.
Of course, I remembered to pick up the cream cheese for the frosting, but not the butter for the actual cupcakes, so I'm shit out of luck when it comes to making them tonight, unless I find a box of cake mix in the cupboard and cheat. Boo.
As long as I have to go back to the store tomorrow, I'm thinking I might as well get the fixings for something else.
Green Tea Cheesecake White Chocolate Brownies, perhaps?
Oh, hey, question -- did Heinz stop making pickles or something? My mother can't find their pickles anywhere, and they're the only ones she likes for her tuna salad.
