I know a few people on my flist run, or used to run. So: question. A few weeks ago I decided to start jogging on the treadmill - doing the jog for a few minutes, walk for a few minutes thing. In the past I have loathed running, but I actually am into it this time. It's the first time in a long time I feel like I am really getting a work out.
The problem comes a day or two later - I am getting what I assume is the start of shin splints, and my legs are super sore. I understand there is probably a learning curve. Also to be honest, I have not been keeping to the consistent schedule recommended - in the past 3 weeks or so I have run 4 times.
I looked up shin splints on the Internet, and it says to avoid them, just stretch before and after. Which, obviously, I have been doing because i am not an idiot. However: Is there a way to stretch my shins specifically? Or an area around my shins? Anyone have any suggestions? I also know that I should get better running shoes - that is on my list of things to do once I am flush with cash again. Suggestions anyone? Help!
