Hello, flist! How are you all doing? I am here at work, with little to do except this database project, which is BO-RING, so I thought I'd update.
* I'm still happy/surprised that it's spring. It hasn't sunk in yet. We had such a horrible winter here, that, even though it's been a couple of weeks, I'm still all "LOOK! The TREES are BLOOMING! CHERRY BLOSSOMS! LEAVES! I DON'T HAVE TO WEAR A COAT!"
* So, there's that big Nuclear Summit this week, which means that the hallways at the NEA are very empty today, and will be tomorrow, as well. It kinda sucks to be one of the few people here, but my office is pretty full, so, there's that. But did I mention the BO-RING database project? Yeah. Huzzah for being employed! Or something.
* If I seem a little loopy today, it's because I got like, no sleep last night. I have no idea why - I just had a bad case of insomnia last night. Probably didn't help that I watched 2 episodes of The Wire before attempting to go to sleep, but oh well. (Wallace, stop being holed up in your room. And did I see you snorting something? Follow the rules! Don't use! Idiris Elba, you continue to be oddly sexy to me, and I'm lovin' it. Ditto Omar.)
*Speaking of TV, it's that time of year where I'm kind of getting sick of it, and contemplate dropping shows from my schedule. I finally decided to drop Desperate Housewives. Yeah, I know, but my 8th-grade loyalty to Teri Hatcher is apparently very strong. Plus, Felicity Huffman. But it totally blows this year, and even Drea deMatto can't save it. It's like Heroes a few years back -- I found myself really just watching out of habit, and not enjoying it at all. So...goodbye, Fairview. I also dropped Important Things with Demetri Martin, because, even though I enjoy him, he doesnt have the hook fo Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, you know? I would, however, really like to see him live one day.
*Speaking of seeing people live -- David Sedaris was in town over the weekend, and my parents and I deigned to go to Baltimore to see him. He was, as always, fantastic. He's got a new book coming out in October, a selection of animal stories (NOT fables, per David, as there is no moral lesson in any of them). He read one of them, and part of another, and they were both great. I'm excited. He also read a great essay about health care, and another one about the state of airline travel. If y'all ever get the chance to see him, do it. He really does not disappoint.
*And, because evidently, I am filled with pop culture today, I was hunting on Itunes yesterday, and came across Wilco -
Kicking Television - Live in Chicago, from a few years back. Not sure if there are any Wilco fans on the flist, but if you are, GET this. It's $19.99, but so worth it. I heart Jeff Tweedy. And Jeff Tweedy's voice. Also, their "new" album (came out at the end of last year) is great. Particularly
this song. So sweet. Another contender for my ever-growing list of wedding songs. Wilco is like a reliable pair of jeans for me. I don't always think of them, but they're always there, always ready to wear and comfortable. Plus, Jeff Tweedy has this quality to his voice that just makes me melt.
* I maybe have a potential date this week. We'll see. More on this later, if it happens.
* And speaking of dates, my calendar is going to be pretty full in the next few weeks. My Mom had hand surgery this morning (she's fine, it was outpatient surgery) and will not be able to use her right hand for six weeks. My Dad is going out of town for a few days next week, so I'm going to stay with her and drive her to PT appointments, to get Starbucks, make dinner, etc.
*Last, I will leave you with this, because I've been loving me some Jeff Tweedy this weekend, and this is my favorite Wilco song ever. Anyone who can write lyrics as beautiful as "You were right about the stars. Each one is a setting sun" is gold in my book.
