Update!
Because my fic postings have been so sparse this year, I thought I’d give a bit of an update on the stories I’m currently writing - or hoping to get around to writing! My new job has been incredibly awesome, but unfortunately leaves me with little time or energy for fanfic. However, I’ve got a handful of nifty ideas percolating:
The Legend of River City
A Music Man/Sleepy Hollow crossover. Pays homage to both the original Washington Irving story and Tim Burton’s 1999 movie. Basically, River City has a run-in with its own version of the headless horseman. Not exactly sure what will happen yet plot-wise, but this fic will have a similar vibe to Old Black Shuck.
Wanton Curiosity
Marian and Harold have an interlude in her backyard two days before their wedding. Should be some good fluff and sexual tension. My plan is to collaborate with Emery Saks on this fic, as it was largely her idea.
Hopelessly Devoted
A reflection fic showing Harold and Marian at the lowest and most uncertain points in their relationship, and how they manage to find their way back to each other in the end. Mrs. Paroo’s POV will be the framing device for the narrative, and we might get a bit more backstory about her courtship. Possible opening: Mrs. Paroo knew a thing or two about hopeless romances. Romances that required gumption to succeed at.
I also have a few undeveloped ideas/concepts floating around in my mind, such as Marian accidentally leaving the telephone off the hook in the kitchen during an interlude with Harold - and then being anxious as to what her neighbors on the party line may have overheard! And of course, I still need to finish the final chapter of Family Dynamics.
I'm currently reading But He Doesn't Know the Territory, Meredith Willson's memoir about writing the Music Man. I also managed to get tickets to the Broadway revival starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster (May 2022). Perhaps these resources will cultivate additional insipiration for stories - here’s hoping 2022 will be a more fruitful year in terms of fanfic writing!
