Well its been a while since I've been in to update and I've been quite busy exloring my environment.
Wed May 25th I hiked into Trombley's Landing here in Tupper Lake, it meets the Raquette River. A nice quick hike about 30 min each way, and 2.6 miles round trip. Mostly decidous forest until the very end where it it all pine, little pine trees. I went in and it was cloudy, got there and the sun came out. The temp was aroudn 60 and I hiked in jeans and a sweatshirt, which proved smart for me since I got attacked by black flies and misqoutos when I got to the river. (the first bugs of the season) The bugs weren't bad on the way out. This site had a lean to and outhouse, too bad the lean to was trashed with beer cans and other garbage, I was informed after this is the local party place for the town kids.
Yesterday Friday May 27 I went hiking on part of the Deer Pond Loop just outside of Tupper Lake. In a previous entry last friday (5/20/05) Sally and I did walk into Deer Pond from the Blueberry Hill entrance. I started at Bull Point on Rt 30, and hiked into the woods to meet with the connector trail that takes you either to Deer pond, or out to the clearing on Rt. 3. I took the path to the Rt. 3 clearing, and back to Bull Point. The trails were 3.8 miles roundtrip, mostly flat as it followed a marsh, with a few little hills, and long gradual ones as well. Its primarily a mix of decidous and pine trees, no marked sections or one kind predominatly more than the other. Out at the Rt. 3 clearing I came across a few camping areas with fire pits included ( local kids partying again), no lean to's or outhouses on this route. I however did meet another hiker, she was jogging the trail, she caught me by surprise and I kind of jumped when she approached me. She took the same route as me, I caught her on my way back to the Y from the Rt. 3 clearing. The hike started out with dark storm clouds, and it even did start to sprinkel, but on my way back from the Rt. 3 clearing the sun came out and it was nice.
Plans today...going to pack to go to Plattsburgh for the holiday weekend, memorial day mass ( get to visit Dad, at the cemetary of course- he died 4 yrs ago- heart attack) Dan ( my lil brother 22) last weekend in NY before he starts work for an engineering firm out of NJ. Going to try to hike Azure Mt (a firetower mt) out by St. Regis falls today if I can get packed and out of town before the (susposed) rain comes. Will take notes If I do get to hike it.....I have pics for each hike this year except my camping trip out at Puffer Pond...sadly...and Deer Pond which I'm sure I'll be back to before the summer offically begins. I'm out its nice and I'm going to enjoy it.
