Dolphin MANIA!

Feb 23, 2006 20:38

So I'm looking up Dolphin-swimming stuff for when Misty comes down (cause yeah, we've decided we're gonna swim with the dolphins... possibly.) and I found THIS. OH MY GOD YOU CAN SWIM WITH THE MANATEES IN CRYSTAL RIVER!

I SO love manatees. Even more than otters, and I do love otters. I love otters enough to kill whales and harvest their blubber to keep the otters warm. BUT DUDE. MANATEES.

OK, yeah. So manatees are 30 dollars, and dolphins are like 250 dollars. Wow. That is a LOT of money. That's like, almost as much as the plane ticket, ha. And the dolphin swim "experience" is about 30 minutes at Discovery Cove, and that's the cheapest. The 250 dollar one. There's a 2-day VIP dolphin experience offered by another company that is 349 dollars a person, but that includes hotel and a tour of the everglades and an up-close and personal alligator "experience". And their dolphin "encounter" is 2 hours. They also have "Structured Dolphin Swims" in Key Largo that are not tour packages, but they don't list a price on the website, it's a "call for pricing" deal. Probably in the 200 dollar range, judging by what I've seen in my pecking around.

I'll have to ask around at work tomorrow about dolphin swims, cause I know some of these people have done it. I've done it, too, but I was much younger and didn't really think about how much it cost.

Unrelated to dolphin and manatee swimming, I am now kinda thinking that Misty and I should go spend a day in Crystal River. I could give my step-aunt Lori a call and we can chill at their house do the wave runners on the canal and swim at the Plantation Inn and stuff. And September is like the perfect time of year to be up there, too. They do so much shit in September. And Lori and Billy always have plenty of alcohol, which is definitely a plus. Especially when Lori works for the sheriff's office, so you pretty much don't have to worry about getting a ticket or being arrested for being drunk and disorderly or something. Ha.

Hooo boy. I have so many things to look forward to. This year is going to FLY. Just watch. Before we know it, it'll be another year and everything will be so kosher. I'll have the week with Misty here, and then I will take pretty much all the rest of the time I have in my PTO bank for the week of the wedding in October, and before we know it, the holidays will be flying past and it will be 2007. And hopefully by the time the wedding comes around, I'll be able to refinance my car and pay much less for it. Can't. Wait. Even if I just end up cutting it to 250 a month or so, that's an extra 120 dollars a month I don't have to throw at a stupid high-interest car payment.
