My alarm went off at 5 this morning, as it usually does, and I thought to myself, "Well. I'll just set it for 5:30, just an extra half an hour of sleep."
So I did, and I rolled over. Suddenly, I smell smoke, and almost as soon as I identify the scent, the smoke detector goes off. So I jump out of bed and run downstairs. The whole downstairs area is filled with smoke.
Nothing actually caught fire, which is good. Just...the quilt and down comforter were smoldering. No one was hurt. Nothing was damaged except the quilt (which my mother made, back when she could see) and the comforter. But it was quite the adrenaline rush.
I had to leave work. I probably shouldn't've gone, but I was on an adrenaline high at the time, and felt fine. Until the crash, and the nausea, and the shakes. Possibly from inhaling all that smoke when I had to put things out. Also probably from standing in soaking pajamas, barefoot, in the freezing cold, trying to soak the quilt. Yay.
So, yes. That was...an experience.
