Naruto/Japanese Glossary

bijuu - tailed beast, one least powerful to nine the most powerful
chakra - blend of spiritual and physical energy used to power attacks by ninjas
-chan - suffix used for young children or girls, or between those having a close relationship
chuunin - ninja rank, journeyman, above genin, below jounin
daimyo - temporal ruler of each Elemental Country, the kage or leader of the Hidden Village in that country is subject to his orders
Densetsu no Sannin - Legendary Three Ninja, Jiraiya Tsunade Orochimaru
fuuin-jutsu - sealing techniques, similar to runes (runic arrays) in the wizarding world
gama - frog
genin - ninja rank, beginner, above academy student, below chuunin
genjutsu - illusion technique, similar to spells that fool all senses.
hai - yes
hasu - lotus
hebi - snake
Hiraishin no Jutsu - Flying Thunder God technique, signature technique of Namikaze Minato
ichibu - one tail
iie - no
jinchuuriki - human sacrifice, a girl/boy used as a vessel to store/contain a bijuu
jounin - ninja rank, master, above chuunin, below kage
jutsu - technique, ninja verson of spell
kage - ninja rank, adept, above jounin
Kami - God
kekkai genkai - bloodline limit, special abilities passed down through certain lineage
kitsune - fox spirit out of Japanese legend, the more tails the more powerful the spirit
Konoha no Kiroi Senko - Konoha's Yellow Flash
kumo - bear
-kun - suffix used for males with whom the user has a close friendship
kunai - spade shaped blade, common weapon for throwing and cutting
kunoichi - female ninja
kyuubi - nine tails
midori - green
Mokuton - a kekkai genkai the Shodaime Hokage was known for, wood growth and manipulation
Ne - Root, secret black ops group raised to be emotionless, loyal only to Shimura Danzo
neko - cat
Nidaime - Second
nin - short general term for male and female ninja (shinobi and kunoichi)
ninjutsu - energy technique, similar to spells, charms
-sama - honorific suffix
-san - general polite suffix used between acquaintances
Sandaime - Third
sensei - teacher
shinobi - male ninja
Shodaime - First
Shunshined - technique similar to apparition
shuriken - star shaped thowing weapon
taijutsu - body technique, chakra-enhanced martial arts
tori - bird
Yondaime - Fourth
youki - the demonic equivalent of chakra
yukata - Japanese garment used at home or for sleeping
