Thank you! When the mood hits me, I can't resist pie charts.

I agree with you that it is the show's overall approach to tell Sam's story from Dean's point of view. Whether it was originally conceived that way or became that way in practice and through the stories they wanted to tell, I don't know, but when I look at the show from that point of view, it makes sense.

It makes me a little sad, though, that--as I mentioned above--this fully-developed, intimate understanding of Dean I have is something I can't have for Sam. I've always felt that the main character (to pick one out, that is) is the brothers' relationship, rather than either individual brother. So I wish sometimes that we had balance in the direction of that point of view and just in general storytelling, but I agree that the show's approach doesn't favor it.

I do wish, though, even if it is Sam's story being told from Dean's perspective, that we didn't have similar types of stories repeated. I think that's part of what emphasizes this perspective gap for me. Sam doesn't have to always be in crisis for Dean to tell his story. Some of the dialogue and situations feel so repetitive, I think, because the writers haven't allowed the brothers to develop in their full potential. I felt they were headed in that direction all the way through S4, but S5 felt like several steps back for me.
