Because Your Felony/Misdemeanor is On My List
Donnie was not pleased when I told him I had not been able to arrest Russell. "What kind of half-cocked screw-up is this?" he raged. "It was a simple grab-and-bag!"
I hung my head most dramatically. "He eluded me, and I have been unable to find him again." With luck Russell's new identity and face would withstand Donnie's scrutiny, or that of Russell's former employer. "I did manage to uncover this list of confederates who had been working with Russell." I beamed the list to him.
Donnie ran his fingers through his hair. "Okay. Okay. This isn't unsalvageable. What'd you pay to get this list?"
I thought of telling him, "two fingers and a thumb," but I would have been unable to explain what I meant, so I settled for, "A decent amount. I would appreciate being allowed to take part in the arrest of those miscreants."
Donnie nodded once and stalked off.
