Clapped in Irons

The peeps were waiting for me even as I was having my eyes and chip scanned as part of the hospital's patient release process. As I was finishing, two very stern men in blue-gray uniforms appeared, one on either side of me. "Mr. Smith?" one said. "We need you to come with us."

I took my time completing the release process. "Do I have a choice, then?" I asked.

"Not really, sir."

They escorted me to their cruiser and flew me to the station. There, more peeps scanned me in a process quite like the hospital release one, only in reverse. "What will you be doing?" I asked one.

"We're awaiting a court order to brain-scan you. We need to find out what you know about the gang fight you were," he paused for a moment, "accidentally caught up in."

"Ah."

At least my cell is clean and I am not sharing it with anyone. I am told that I will be allowed to consult with some lawyer software later.
