Today I am free.
Cravan came to visit me, looking more haggard even than before. "Stones," he said. "Show me." And he unlocked my cell door.
What good fortune? But I am the suspicious sort, so I decided to follow Cravan and find out more before attempting to escape or subdue him. Besides, if he put me back in his cell, undoubtedly he'd be dead in another two days.
He led me back to my study, where the stones were arranged on the floor. Scribble-filled parchment filled the space between them. He pointed at the stones with a trembling, yellowed finger. "Make them work?"
"The stones? But I--"
"MAKE THEM WORK!"
I reached out to them with my mind. They flared to life, then knocked Cravan unconsious.
Reynald and I immediately set about making things right. Cravan can stay in my old cell for a while.
