Turning the Page
By Sarga

Her fingers turned the pages of the textbook, her eyes scanning quickly to find the details she needed. It was in these pages that she had first spotted the reference to the scrolls and, thinking nothing of it at the time, she had turned the page and continued reading.

Now, days later, she wanted - needed - that information, but she couldn't, for the life of her, find it.

Page two-twenty-eight was turned to page two-twenty-nine....

Kagome ground her teeth in frustration as she skimmed another section about another mythical tale told in another scroll, but not the one she wanted. She had to find it! She had to get back to Inuyasha! Without some word as to where he might be or how she might get back, she was stuck here, on her side of the well with her undergraduate university degree half-complete from searching - most of her studies came just from searching - for some inkling of a clue as to how she could find her way back to him.

Page page two-thirty was turned to page two-thirty-one...

Her studies were a ruse.

Kagome did just enough work in her classes to get by. Only her stellar research skills - carefully honed in hours of fruitless searching for him - held her above water. Her professors were thrilled that she was so interested in the ancient stories of the Warring-States era of Japan. Her papers were always so rife with detail and included numerous reliable sources - mostly sources that had been skimmed through in her true search - so she was always complemented and encouraged.

Page two-thirty-two was turned to page two-thirty-three...

There!

Two-thirds down the page, Kagome saw what she was looking for. A description of a myth detailed by scrolls that could be traced back to the feudal era. The myth seemed eerily similar to her own tale of the jewel of four souls, the scrolls they were written on housed in this very university archive!

Would she find her half-demon? Could she finally - Finally! - go back to where she belonged?

Kagome's heart quickened in her chest.

The answer lay on page two-thirty-three of that nondescript, leather-bound book.
