Yesterday we had a big YSA conference with all the singles' wards in the Portland/Vancouver area. We don't hang out much together because even though Oregon is like 15 minutes from my house (it would be less but you have to get to the bridge. That river causes problems...) But we’re in different states (Oregon is the land of tax-free goods) and even worse, different missions. Dun! Dun! Dun! Anyway, we hardly see each other or know each other... not that I made any new friends, but it was good to see the old ones.
Anyway there was a general authority there. He seemed nice , but his comments led me to believe he has NO IDEA what it's like to be old and single.
He came to RS and of course, gave us the marriage talk of course. He told us this story about his son, who STILL couldn't find a girl a FEW years after his mission. That's like mourning for the poor 25 year old girl who had too wait soo long for marriage. Cry me a river. When I was at BYU, some stupid girl who ended up marrying the guy I liked, so actually she's doublely stupid. went on and on during her talk in stake conference about what a trial it was for her to be 23 and not married yet. Shut up. Anyway, his son kept dating people that were going on missions....and he was so discouraged in his poor little heart that he couldn't compete with a mission.
Then, he met a girl *shock and awe* through a friend and she decided she want to date him, even though she ALREADY HAD A MISSION CALL. I know it's different for girls but if I felt strongly enough to go on a mission AND HAD A CALL, I certainly wouldn''t even be looking at a boy, but whatever...they began dating and she decided 2 days before her mission farewell to hold off her mish a’to see where the relationship goes.’ gulp! You know, usually the boy proposes...OK, I would never do that. Never. But hey, inspiration is inspiration, so whatever
No, what made me think was the Elders next comment. He said, “I am sure any of you girls would do that too.”
Uh.........
Heck no! I’d go on my mission. I’d ask a guy to write...and if he was still single when I get back...
And this, is one reasopns I’m not married...
marriage,
church,
rant
