Trojan implosion

May 16, 2006 14:29

I know, it sounds dirty doesn't it? Its not.

I live about 30 miles upriver from the site of the dismantled Trojan Nuclear Power Plant. It is right on the river (on the oregon side) and built in the 70s very poorly. It ran into the 80s despite protests -- one of the major bad points of it was they built on a fault line...stupid. Anyway, they shut it down because of cracks in the cooling tower. They already sent the nuclear core up the river to Hanford (don't worry, I plan on getting cancer.) and they are going to implode the cooling tower sunday. I never liked that tower. Nuclear power scares me (ever seen the movie Howard the Duck?? Don't laugh; it traumatized me as a child.) It always was an unwelcome sight from I-5 going to seattle...so I will watch the implosion on TV with joy!
