sunshine, lollipops and tra la la la la.....

well, my mood has definitely lifted since the last time I posted something :D

Last weekend was EXACTLY what I needed...Mike picked me up from the airport and I feel asleep in the car as we drove to Toowoomba. Went straight to bed (he practically had to carry me to bed) and didn't really wake up until saturday morning  and then we didn't really leave the bedroom till lunchtime. We walked down to the shopping centre which I really enjoyed coz I hadn't done any exercise all week. I then helped him choose a suit for the ball next weekend and we sat on the couch for pretty much the rest of the weekend....it was awesome! I thought I'd get really bored and ansty coz I usually need something to do, I have such a short attention span but I didn't, I loved every minute of it. It wasn't a soppy, overly-couply weekend, it was a good balance of hanging out, sleeping in and spending some quality time together....we get so little of that given the distance. I almost thought I'd regret a last-minute trip as it cost sooo much more than usual but I hated the fact that I jam-packed so much into our weekend in Sydney and we hadn't seen each other for a month before that that I just wanted to be with him. And I can safely say it was the best thing I could've done :) I've come back to melbourne refreshed and revitilased, feeling good once again about my job, my family, my friends (near and far), my relatinship and my overall life!

I've also given up drinking for a fornnight...I finally realised I was developing a rather bad habit. I was basically drinking with everthing I did, except for work....dinner, TV, flying, even relaxing. It kinda hit home when my sometimes-house mate picked me up from the airport the last time I was in Sydney, I had a fair few at Melbourne airport and also on the plane. He surprised me with some bullbs (awwww) but I had all but 2 when I felt horribly ill coz I'd had so much to drink. Not cool! I thought it'd be hard at first but Mike is not a big drinker so spending the weekend with him eased me into it. I'm up to day 11 now :) I was rather proud of myself went I went to drinks with work ppl last night and didn't touch a thing, even with everyone trying to convince me to give in :) I've been waking up feeling refreshed, I've been getting less tired at the gym and been saving a bit too :) Next tuesday is my last day, I have no plans whatsoever to take up drinking like I was before, will just be more sensible about it. I'm going to a ball in Sydney next week, run by a brother of mine and his wife for a charity called touched by olivia, named after their second daughter they lost when she was 8 months old. (if you want to check out more about the charity : http://www.touchedbyolivia.com.au/html/aboutus.html ). So no doubt I'll have a big night, I'll just make sure that I'm better behaved on non-big occasions :) Now, to give up smoking.....

Today has been a very productive day also :) gymming, shopping, car-wash, cleaning and 4 loads of washing. all very domesticated but necessary. Alas I have to do some work tomorrow, going to Samoa before sydney to give some presentations. 2 out of the 3 I don't know much about so have to make sure I know them well so I at least sound like I know what I'm talking about! If any of you who are non-scientists and have a slight interest in climate change (especailly over the Pacific) I'd be more than happy to pactise my talks on you :D (joke...) Looking forward to going to Samoa! will be so lovely and warm :D

happy, drinking, cleaning, relax
