Stiles laughed. "Well, I guess it helps that I'm a nerd for all things science fiction and fantasy. Like online RPG's and tabletop ones involving 10-sided dice. Plus, monster movies are awesome... until you find yourself living in one and you're the one about to die."

"That's true enough." Michael agreed. "It would have been way too cinematic for you to trip while running in a cemetery."

"Still, you'll wear yourself out if you try to catalog all the strangeness around here. For example, if you go more than a mile or so from the center of town, in any direction, you'll just appear on main street again."

Cataloging it was how Stiles dealt with it. For instance, if there was some magic herb, he needed to know the name of it and what it did. A supernatural being was no different- he needed to know their strengths and weaknesses or he wouldn't be able to handle the situation- even if said situation was walking past them in a store. Stiles was a little obsessive about it because otherwise he'd feel like he had nothing. He'd been in the line of fire too much to not want to know what he was up against before he was actually up against it.

"Well, that's... I mean, how the heck does that work?"

"Magic? Dream? Vulcan mind meld?" Michael said, shrugging. "No idea. There's a Welcome Center with a bunch of pamphlets on things. No one here seems to really know what's going on, though some people thing we're all here to learn some kind of life lesson."

He had a feeling he should go visit this place just to be sure he knew at least as much about what was going on as most people here. Then, from there he could try to figure it out more.

"So, this place is never boring I take it?" Stiles grinned. Yep, he was definitely going to like it here. "What do people do, though? Go in search of quests to figure out their 'life lessons'?"

"I suppose it can be, at some point." Michael admitted. "They expect you to get a job if you aren't in school. I've heard that the place gets invaded sometimes, as if we didn't have enough monsters running around."

"Ugh, there's a school?" Stiles rolled his eyes. "Leave it to a magical village to have something as boring as that. It just lost some points from me with that."

"Wow, we get invasions though, that's pretty cool. This place is like every game I've played, book I've read, and movie I've seen all rolled into one."

"I know the feeling." Michael said. "After getting through med school, I'm hoping to never be a student again."

"These days, I work as a bouncer." He rolled his eyes. "Hard to work as a doctor when you're a blood drinker."

Stiles laughed. "A bouncer? What, they have night clubs here?"

"I don't know what I could do for work, honestly. I think I have a pretty limited skill set."

"Bars, schools, a movie theater - all kinds of things." Michael confirmed.

"I'm told that the place has a way of finding work for you, if you let it go long enough. Scott was originally going to work at the animal shelter, but he ended up doing something else."

"He worked at the animal shelter back home. I wonder what he's doing here." Stiles wondered what he should do here. He didn't really want to go to school, even though it was probably for the best.

He'd have to go explore the place first. "So, these other monsters and things, they're just living among the humans? Like, do these people know, and do they attack or...?"

"Well, all the people from 'outside' stay in the hotel, as I understand it." Michael said. "There is a local population, too, that lives in the area around the town. The places is called 'Haurvatat', by the way."

"There's a town police, and a volunteer guard that acts when there is a crisis. The monsters in town, though, behave themselves as a rule. I guess it's like we're all stuck in a lifeboat together."

"Sounds to me like we're all just waiting for a bomb to go off." Stiles crossed his arms, still looking around the town as they walked toward he hotel.

"I mean, if there are supernatural beings here, then there are probably hunters too, right? How do they react to all of this?"

"I think there are, though I don't know any personally." Michael said.

"There's an effective truce in place. I think it works because everyone is a little afraid of whoever is behind all this. Monster or not, everyone is stuck here and that suggests that there's something more powerful than any of us at work."

He took out his messaging device, showing it to the younger man. "You'll get one of these for your stay here - are you familiar with this sort of thing?"

"Looks like a cross between a tablet and a BlackBerry. Sure, I bet can figure it out." Maybe Stiles wasn't as tech savvy as Danny, but he was a teenage kid after all. They knew loads more about technology than most adults.

"Let me guess, you've never seen something like this until you came here?" The guy didn't exactly look like he was from the late 90's/2000's.

"Pagers are fairly common, but nothing quite like this, no." Michael admitted. "And that's another important topic: people how come here can come from different times as well. I'm from 2003, for example - how about you?"

"2013. Huh, you pegged me for earlier. Shows what I know."
