The wedding and other stories.

Apr 23, 2013 10:20

Sitting in the Ft. Lauderdale airport, waiting for our plane. We've got a little while--plane doesn't leave until 11:30, and it's only 9:45 now, as I start typing this.

The wedding was ridiculously fancy. At one point I literally had five drinks to choose from--champagne, wine, water, iced tea, and coffee. AND I had another glass available, just in case I also wanted red wine, I guess. It was amazing.

We had fun, I think. We stayed with my mom's old friend Bruce (they've been friends almost 40 years) and his partner Richard. I'd met Bruce before, but the last time I'd seen him I think I was like 16? So I didn't really know him. It was fun to actually talk to him as an adult.

Richard, on the other hand, I'd never met, but I am glad I have now! He's awesome. We spent a lot of time hanging out and watching The West Wing, hee. At one point my mom wandered in and we ended up giving her a mini civics lesson and Intro to Queer History 101, lol. Anyway, he's also a truly ridiculously amazing cook. Like, dinner one night, I swear to god, I had DECORATIVE LEMON on my plate. I even took a picture to show Kelly and Geena.

He told me he used to do it up even fancier, with flowers and everything, but stopped because Bruce never really saw the point of it, lol. Then later that night we're watching TWW, and randomly he gets up, asks me, "Do you like chocolate?" Being a human being with a pulse, I of course say yes, and he vanishes into the kitchen. Ten minutes go by and I'm wondering where the hell he went, so I get up to check and see him mixing something chocolatey in a bowl. Shaking my head, I go back to the show, and when he finally comes back, I'm all, "So what are you making now?"

"German forest cake," he says, completely casually, like this isn't absolutely ridiculous and incredible.

WHO JUST GETS UP AND RANDOMLY MAKES AN ENTIRE FREAKING CAKE?

You get a picture of that, too, because I'm mean. It was super delicious.

I told Kelly and Geena that I wanted to keep him, lol. I also asked him if he was real.

They took us to one of the like eight casinos near them, which was odd but fun. I won fifteen dollars! My mom won forty. It was kinda cool.

And that brings us to this morning. It's now about 10:20, which means we should board in about 30 minutes if they didn't lie to us.

Adios!
