Okay, so I now I have two computers.
One was a very expensive Toshiba laptop that, a few months after I purchased it, began to shut down randomly. Like, power off, shut down, overheat, whatever. I've taken it in to be fixed 5 or 6 times, begging them to give me another, but they always "fix" it temporarily (reseat the CPU or dust it out or whatever) and give it back. Grr.
Anyway, also, I just got another computer. It's a cute litle Gateway, wasn't very expensive, just enough for the Internet, iTunes, and word processing. The other day, it froze up, and I had to remove the battery to get it to restart. Then the program restarted itself a few hours later, saying it had encountered a stop error.
It happened again last night...just shut down, then restarted. I'm worried this will happen while I'm doing something...as it is, it happens when the computer is sleeping or whatever. Microsoft error report says: You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your computer.
Next steps: We have analyzed your error report and at this time are unable to determine the exact cause of the error. However, Microsoft will continue to analyze this error report to try to determine the specific cause of the error. If we are able to find the cause and correct it, and you encounter the same problem, you will receive an updated
response that includes instructions for resolving the problem.
Can I fix this, or should I revert to the old computer and send this one to the Geek Squad?
