Update of Updateyness, also costuming stuff

I don't know why I always feel the need to pile on 3 or more projects with a deadline of less than two weeks.

Vidar and Ellisif are entering this year's Crown tournament, and I was tasked with getting Vidar into something more suitable for a Varangian.  He needed more...everything.  More color, more embellishment, more layers.  His fighting kit is pretty good as is, but as kind of a, "y'know, just in case" thing, I'm working on a court outfit.  Ellisif is working on her own new dress that I helped fit, though I think I made it too big.  She blames it on the fact that she lost a bunch of weight after cutting out the fabric, and while that's true enough, I know better.  The alterations (mostly to the back) fixed it fairly well, and she's doing a lot to embellish it, so the overall look should hopefully make up for my lack of skill in fitting.

I'm also working on a pair of matching half-circle cloaks out of this great stamped short-pile cotton velveteen that looks incredibly Byzantine, but had an adventure getting it from Fabric Mart.  After waiting two weeks with still no package (I've ordered from them plenty of times with no issue whatsoever), the company informed me that it had been sent to our old apartment a week ago.  I was pretty ticked off (this was on Monday Morning) but Drew worked on trying to resolve it while I was at work.  They decided recut the fabric and try to get a hold of UPS (who were the ones who sent it to the wrong place).  Later that day, we got word that the owners of the old house had found the package and we could pick it up the next day.  Well, after telling FM that we didn't need the new order, they told me that it was too late, they'd already shipped it, and it was as good as ours, no extra charge.  Wow!  I was really happy that they accepted responsibility over the mixup, and there is still plenty of time to shoot out two cloaks in the next week.  Hopefully.

I'm also trying to make sure I have something to wear at Crown.  I'm doing finish work on a gold silk kirtle that ended up going through a major refit after being way too big and just a little too short in the hem.  I'm doing a bias facing on the hem to make the fold as small as possible, and I re-fit and re-cut the bodice.  I'm still not entirely happy with it.  Like my blue 15th century kirtle, the neckline is too loose even while the rest of the bodice fits fine.  I'm also not happy with my cord corset right now, though it seems to help it a little (mostly by giving me super cleavage).  Maybe I'm just making my necklines too high or something, but if my new closures don't fix it (I'm doing eyelets WHICH I HATE in an effort to help it cinch in more) I'm going to just dart it in at the corners and then hide it with a bunch of embellishment.
