This is why I don't like being optimistic...
So about fifteen minutes ago, Steve and I managed to catch one of our neighbors (Nikolai) walking in the front door. We introduce ourselves and Steve braves the question of whether having a cat in the house might adversely affect either of them.
The answer was a resounding hell yes.
Apparently Nikolai's wife (Elizabeth) is terribly allergic to cats and is also suffering from undiagnosed chronic pain. He is also allergic to cats (but only some of them). He said he'd ask her about it, but it doesn't look good.
