2007 Meme

Dec 31, 2007 20:21

because lilithilien insisted and i needed a break from writing.

my 2007 meme. enjoy all those things about me you really didn't care to know.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Started a gi-normous epic fanfic, of all things. 160k+ words currently, blasted thing might make it to 200k by the time I'm done with it, hopefully within the next couple weeks.

Also did some stuff at work - taking more of a charge w/ my career. And started a community involvement team/volunteer group at my company. Well, that was technically started in 2006, but didn't get the group fully formed till 2007. Proposed (and received) a larger budget for the team in 2008 and working on a partnership with a 100% volunteer based clinic in Lincoln. ($35k!)

Watched my brother get married. Prolly will never do that again, being the good Catholic that he is. ;)

Got politically active, or at least more than I have ever been.

Skipped Easter mass w/ the parents for the first time ever. Actually, skipped Easter all together with my parents.

2. Did you keep your New Years' Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Resolutions? Resolutions are for those who can't manage to stay dedicated to a task, to see it thru fruition.

Oh, yeah. That'd be me.

Um...no resolutions, just a goal to finish Burn, book 1 this year and get it sent off to attempt getting published.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know, and if there was, my apologies. :)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, but ask me again next year. Old age and cancer suck :(

5. What countries did you visit?
Sorry? That would imply travel.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
M.O.N.E.Y.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 4th. The day Paris Hilton was sentenced to jail for 45 days. That day has left a permanent mark on my soul.

I wept that day.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I'd have to say the fic. I'm pathetic, I know. But the thing's huge! And as a writer, I consider that quite the achievement.

Oh yeah, and I finally figgered out teh internets and found DailyKos. Yeah, late bloomer, I know.

9. What was your biggest failure?
My biggest failure? Not failing, or so said my boss in my annual employee review. In 2008, I strive to fail at something.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
RSI! Well, then there's always the touch of crazy that I continually live with, but no, I'd have to say RSI.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Did I buy my laptop this year? If that was this year, I'd have to say my laptop. If that was actually 2008, I'd have to say....my flannel sheets and micro-seude down comforter. God, those things have made winter bliss.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Britney Spears. Because as I watched her snatch flash before my eyes and her bald head gleam in the spotlight, she taught me the real meaning behind those egg-in-the-frying-pan commercials: evolution is a myth and Darwin's a liar because no matter how many eggs she banged against a K-Fed, she still successfully reproduced.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Take your pick: Bush, Cheney, AG, Mukassey, the Dem Senate/Congress, okay, let's just say, all of politics. Plus mix in a few Sherri "the world is flat" Shepherds and Larry "I'm not gay!" Craigs and Fred "God hates you" Phelps and well, you've got a Titanic-worth of sinking depression and appall.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, wine, and cat food. Cause nothing parties like quality red wine and Science Diet.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The community involvement team! I'm silly, I know, but I love that kind of work.

And SoI. Cause, well, dammit. It's big.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Easy. Doctor Who OSTs, Volumes I & II. The entire albums. I've probably had them on repeat continuously for the past year.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? No f'ing clue. More bitter would prolly be more appropriate.

ii. thinner or fatter? Oh, so much fatter. I embrace my fatness. Cause well, life's too short to not enjoy my red wine and to waste time on exercise.

iii. richer or poorer? Same. Still flat-assed broke.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Travel. Write on Burn which is actually something that may be published, rather than fanfic.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time playing stupid video games.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Was at my parents' house. Woke up, ate extremely rich and fatty breakfast. Played a cardgame w/ the parents and brother, totally kicked their asses. Oh yes, I am the card playing Queen. Ate some extremely rich and fatty foods for mid-afternoon snack. Traveled w/ the parents to another small town in Nebraska for Christmas dinner w/ some close family friends where once again, we were the diversion. Last year, the family was staging an intervention for one of the member's drinking problem. This year, one of their family has terminal breast cancer (see Q 4) so we were again diversion. No extremely rich and fatty foods for me at this dinner, since I'm vegetarian and that whole family is so not. Had carrot sticks and dinner rolls. Yay, Christmas dinner.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Oh, hell no. Unless you count my undying, total adoration for Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann, Stephen Colbert, Anderson Cooper, David Hewlitt, Johnny Depp, Gareth David-Lloyd, and John Barrowman.

23. How many one-night stands?
I lost track. My vibrator is such a bitch about sexin' then leavin' without even a cuddle.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Um....that's like asking me what's my favorite red wine. ALL OF THEM. Okay, if I limited to 5? 1) Stargate: Atlantis 2) Torchwood 3) Criminal Minds 4) Bones 5) Daily Show/Colbert Report/Countdown w/ KO

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
My hatred for Bush and Cheney is unending. Tho, my hatred for the Dem baffoons in DC definitely intesified this year with their complete lack of balls and failure to stand for anything. Except for Kucinich and Dodd - they rock.

26. What was the best book you read?
I read way too much to remember. How about a goal for next year - keep track of every single book I read. I do have to say, "Leadership and Self-Deception" and "The Dream Manager" are two really good non-fiction books that were excellent in turning an introspective eye upon myself.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Doctor Who OSTs? *g* Paul Potts! Bats for Lashes. The Divine Comedy. Gruff Rhys. Rediscovered my love of The Doors and Tool. Countless OSTs since that's all I seem to listen to anymore.

28. What did you want and get?
Wanted: Everything. Got: Some things.

Hey, I don't want to set my goals low and actually meet them all. Better to strive for everything.

29. What did you want and not get?
Wanted to win the lottery, so far, haven't succeeded other than a $3 win. JACKPOT! Set for life.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Waaaaay too many. But, I'm going to have to go with "Transformers." Shup. That's my childhood you're mocking.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Not a damned thing because I took the day off from work and I had celebrated it earlier in the week with my parents. Opened a bottle of wine that night and enjoyed a quiet night. I was 29.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Duh. More money. Then I could have bought everything I wanted but didn't get. Like tickets to a club in LA to see Britney's snatch in person.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
That would be working class business attire mixed with a touch of I-live-by-myself-and-can-walk-around-in-my-underwear fancy panties.

34. What kept you sane?
lilithilien, my cats, and the internets. And friends who let me babble on the phone endlessly. And Barrymore's. And coffee. And red wine. God, I sound like a sad alcoholic crazy cat lady. Oh yeah, and DailyKos.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm...see Q 22, add Keira Knightly and Rachel Maddow and you got yourself a collection of free-thinking relatively smart, beautiful people who I just adore.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
What didn't? 2007 was a shit year for politics in any branch and one of the main reasons why I became more active/interested. Probably the thing that made me most ashamed of my government is our dismissal of habeaus corpus and human rights extended during the Geneva convention.

37. Who did you miss?
My old roomie. Wasn't quite the same - lived with her for 5 years? 6 years? Forever. I had to babble endlessly to my cats instead.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
No f'ing clue.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Name tags go on your right shoulder, not on your left at boob level. Yeah, I know, shocked me too.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Because it's seriously the only album I listen to in the car, Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight, probably song "No More Sorrow". Shup. I love that band. And I'm lazy about burning new cd's.

Are you lost
In your lies
Do you tell yourself I don't realize

Your crusade's a disguise
Replace freedom with fear
You trade money for lives

I'm aware of what you've done

No no more sorrow
I've paid for your mistakes
Your time is borrowed
Your time has come to be replaced

I see pain
I see need
I see liars and thieves
Abuse power with greed

I had hope
I believed
But I'm beginning to think that I've been deceived

You will pay for what you've done

Thieves and hypocrites

No no more sorrow
I've paid for your mistakes
Your time is borrowed
Your time has come to be replaced

Your time has come to be replaced
Your time has come to be erased
