Well, I am a Doctor Who fan (a new fan, because I never had the opportunity to watch the old series) and fell in love with Jack there. I wait eagerly for Jack coming back since season 1 ending...and loved each second he was on screen on Utopia ^_^.
I love his easygoing character on Doctor Who. I have the feeling the Doctor calls this part of Jack. I think it was good to him to know how he became Immortal and why the Doctor left him (even though I wouldn't like to here the Doctor saying I was left behind because I am 'wrong'. Mean Doctor).
I was afraid Jack and Ten wouldn't have chemistry but I'm happy I was wrong, as they got very well together. I had the impression Jack made Ten act a lot more similar to Nine than any other character on the show. It was as if Jack presence imposed a more serious attitude on the Doctor...as the Doctor makes Jack more free.

As you, I loved the radiation room scene ^_^. If it was on Torchwood, we would see a lot more :D It's a pity Doctor Who is a more family show :-(

As for Jack character, I love both. I can't change my mind that deep inside, his life goes around the Doctor and he reacts accordingly.

Other scene I loved was him running and screaming to get to the TARDIS. Absolutely perfect ~_^. Now I'm waiting for next chapters...and a little said that I'll have to wait even more for Torchwood next season.

lovely interp.

i think jack currently reacts to the doctor because he was still so connected to the doctor - to know and understand himself he had to talk w/ the doctor. i think once jack goes back to TW, his life will revolve less around the doctor and more within his own skin.

and then he can go back to happily shagging ianto.

Even though I agree with you (about Jack looking more into his own life and less on when he will find the Doctor again), I think the Doctor will always be the 'perfect' pair to Jack (to him...and to me, hohoho). I think the Doctor is the standard man to Jack, his ideal and a good match, but they have a lot of time to meet again so...Jack will living his life, having lovers, falling in love...having casual affairs...etc, etc, etc...and from time to time seeing the Doctor again.
Of course, as he won't see the Doctor so soon, he can happily shag Ianto for quite some time ^_^...I'll be happy as well :D

i wonder how accurate the 'casual affairs' is for jack, and how much of that's assumed by viewers because of his natural flirtiness.

I really believe that during his 'normal' time (I mean, before Rose bringing him back to life) he was a casual guy. Maybe had fallen in love, but usually was changing pairs. But after his incident, he changed a little. Living for more than a hundred years (we know about 138 + his real unknown age before the Bad Wolf thing) obviously changed him. I think during all this time he definitely fell in love (that old lady whose name I forgot is an example) and probably more than once, and grew a lot too in maturity. But he still him, still has his flirtation character and I believe he doesn't get attached so easy, even though he does it from time to time, that's whey I think he will be back to his life having serious relationships and casual ones. He will have a loooong life, and probably not many 'real love', because that's not so easy to find.

But yeah, sometimes we fans assume that what we think is what really is as if the fandom idea of the things was the only truth, while it's not really true.
