Opposites Work
-1/1-

He's been Spinner for so long sometimes even he forgets his first name is Gavin. It's like there are two of him, fighting to exist.

Spinner's the screw up that everybody expects to go nowhere, the guy who isn't going to be anything more than a manager of The Dot with a little band to waste time over. He's the guy who got cheated on by the girl he thought was going to be his everything; the guy who had his place of blown up just minutes after he broke up with that same cheating girlfriend. Spinner's the goofball, the guy nobody thinks is all that smart or mature or worth much of a second-glance. His friends accepted him as is long ago, even when his ADHD made him a little crazy or his testicular cancer made him a lot scary. But he grew up somewhere along the way and a little out of Spinner and into Gavin.

Gavin's the guy who's happy with his job; who hopes one day he might own The Dot and be proud of it. He's the guy who loves his city and his friends, his loft and music. And most of all, Gavin is that happily married guy who got Emma Nelson and never let her go. Not after their sad excuse for a casino wedding or their mixed-signals on whether marriage or divorce was better for them. He's the guy who walked away from a cheating girlfriend and a fiery diner into the arms of a friend and even when it seemed crazy, he fell in love and let himself enjoy it.

People look at Spinner and Emma and they wonder… How did she end up with him? She's at Toronto University for environmental studies and he's rebuilding The Dot, bringing in more customers and putting on a free Spinwich re-opening day. She's holding protests and crying out for justice and he's dishing out advice to pre-teens over milkshakes about how their lives are going to change and maybe they won't like it at first but it'll get better. He's a carnivore, born and bred, and she loves tofurkey burgers, a concept he can't really get behind but will make for her nonetheless.

While friends and family don't quite get them, they support it regardless. Because they're happy and Emma is laughing, her face bright and warm and content for the first time in a long time. And Spinner looks like he'd give her the world, better than ever, if she asked him for it. They live in the loft and they work at The Dot and she goes to college while he thanks whatever cosmic force had his life turning out this good. He adds their beach wedding pictures to his Spinner Shrine and knows there's a lot more to come, centered around him and Em. Because all those things in the past, all those people that molded him, they got him to this moment, to this place in his life, where he wasn't just enough for Emma Nelson, but he was her all.

And he's still kind of awed when he goes to bed with her, when he's hugging her or kissing her and realizing that she's his for a lifetime. Since he was just a teenager realizing that cooties were worth getting if a girl paid attention to him, he's been looking for The One. He's been looking for someone who would accept him and love him and not want to change him or the way he lives and loves his life. And he never expected her, of all people, to be who came along. But there she was, on the worst day of his life, only making it worse. But she wouldn't leave, wouldn't let him wallow, instead she did all she could to get him out of his depressed funk. And when compassion and friendship turned into a quicky wedding, they knew they should just cut their losses but… She made him feel like he was on top of the world; not holding it up or standing off to the side watching others, watching friends as they got it all but finally getting it himself.

When a year goes by, he's surprised but hopeful. When a second passes, he's starting to think it might be real, might actually work. Then a third, a forth, and he knows… There's no going back now.

And every night, after work is done and her studies are put away, he lays her back in their bed, he makes her laugh with kisses down her neck and he nuzzles her soft, tanned skin, shedding her pretty little clothes with their bright colors and their flowers. And she still smiles up at him the same way, like he's everything she ever wanted. He's got her blonde hair tangled around his fist even as he kisses her mouth softly, tender and slow. And his hand strokes her body, her curves and her slightly swelling stomach, and her full breasts. He drags his whiskered chin down her puckered nipples, nuzzling them, making her cry out, making her jerk and rock her wet heat against him. She's gripping him tight, his shoulders, his arms, his waist, wherever she can reach; she's always pulling at him, desperate to have him inside her already. And when he slides home, thick and hard and filling her every shaking inch, her eyes flutter closed, her head lolls back and her mouth parts on a sigh, as if this is it, this is all she could ever want or need and it's him.

It never gets old; this feeling of being completely part of someone. She's soft beneath him, angelic looking, and sometimes he thinks it must all be a dream. But then she's rocking up against him, impatient, and digging her heels into his thighs, urging him on. And she drags her fingers through his hair, nails grazing his scalp, scoring down his neck, and she's whimpering, crying out his name. And it's not Spinner, it's Gavin; Gavin who she yells for and desperately needs more of. Because Spinner was the teenager she was merely acquaintances with; he was the guy still learning, still growing. But Gavin's all grown up, he's a husband and a business owner and a band manager and more than most of those, he's going to be a father.

He prefers her on top these days because he's scared he'll crush the small bump on her stomach. He rolls them over and grips her thighs, his fingers dragging up and down soft skin, firm flesh, and he can't take his eyes off her. She tosses her thick blonde hair behind her shoulder and digs her fingers into his chest as she rides him, panting, her eyes caught by his, intense. He reaches for the flair of her hips, rubs the back of his knuckles along the side of her stomach, of where their child lays growing, waiting. She reaches for his hands, drags them up to her breasts and threads their fingers. Her hips are rocking steadily but as his fingers and calloused palms rub her nipples she jerks harder against him, biting her lip with the stroke of pleasure.

He loves the look on her face; utter ecstasy, the kind of pleasure that's almost too much. And she's leaning forward, perched against his hands, and hers fall to his waist, curling, nails biting at his abdomen. She drags her fingers down lower, strokes what little of him isn't inside her already, one hand rubbing his shaft while the other flicks at her clit, circling. And he loves that she's got little to no inhibitions with him, that she loves who she is and how she looks when she's in his arms. She never covers herself or looks uncomfortable; she just gives herself to him, wholly.

He's squeezing and kneading her breasts and jerking his hips up, slamming into her hard because her fingers ringing around his length are pushing him on, past the point of restraint. And she grins, happy for it, grinding down into him. She loves making him fall apart; forcing him to lose control.

When she comes, she nearly screams, crying his name out like prayer, "Gavin!" Her body arches high, every muscle tightening in response and she takes him with her, making him shout her name hoarsely. Eyes closed tight, panting, his chest heaving, every inch of his body slowly unclenching, he knows he's got a goofy grin on his face and he can't help it. She slowly sprawls herself on top of him, tucking her head against his shoulder and stroking his sides as she stretches, her hot breath skittering along her sweat dampened chest.

He doesn't open his eyes for a long moment, dragging her long hair off her face, kissing her forehead, hugging her close. He thinks he could be happy with this for a lifetime and never regret what happened all those years ago, after their blackjack run and a few too many drinks, agreeing to be married without friends or family there to talk them out of it. It's the best mistake he's ever made and he hopes it never ends. With their son or daughter on the way, with the way she still looks at him and he looks at her, he thinks this will last. And both Gavin and Spinner agree; some accidents bring about the best change and he finally lucked out.
