Interlude
-That Night-

The sun was setting, warming the New York landscape with its rays. They sat out on a lounge chair that'd seen better days. Flack's idea of new deck furniture had been to fix up the old stuff with duct tape. Still, sprawled out next to him, her arm across his waist and her head on his shoulder, she wasn't really complaining.

"We should take a vacation," he said against her hair.

Grinning, Lindsay looked up at him. "Yeah? And where would we go?"

"Somewhere sunny..." He shrugged. "Somewhere nobody would be able to rope us into work."

She laughed lightly. "Somehow I think we'd end up being involved in some bizarre case or another."

With a half-smile, he nodded, leaning back and drawing her closer to him, hand rubbing her shoulder absently. "Fine, but on our honeymoon, we're going incognito. Nobody knows. We'll elope if we have to."

Smiling, she lifted a brow at him. "That implies there will be a honeymoon... Just what are you saying, Detective?" Turning over, she straddled his waist and planted her hands on either of his shoulders.

He cupped her elbows in his hands and stared up at her with a lazy smirk. "Just further proving how wrong you were about us, Monroe. Face it; ma was right. One of these days, you're gonna be a Flack."

"And on this future day, you want us to elope and hide out for our secret honeymoon to escape the chaos of New York and our jobs?" She couldn't help the grin tugging at her mouth.

His fingers stroked the inside of her elbow as he licked his lips. "You have to admit, it sounds pretty good. No murder mysteries or cheesy wedding gifts like toasters and blenders."

"We need a blender..." she replied cheekily.

He chuckled. "So I'll buy you one on our secret honeymoon."

"Ooh, my own blender from an exotic and hot honeymoon getaway..." Leaning in, she laid on top of him, their upper bodies molded together and her lips brushing his as she spoke. "Your mom would kill us."

Sliding his hands around her back, he nodded agreeably. "True... But at least we get out of choosing between a New York or a Bozeman wedding... Think about it..."

Laughing, she kissed him.

The sun fell in the background, highlighting the happy couple as they made plans for a future they had no idea would never come to fruition. Laughter rang from the balcony, intermixed with good-natured banter, wandering hands and slanting mouths.

"You should get ready... We've got dinner reservations."

"Does anybody else know how big you are on anniversaries?" she teased.

Wrapping his hands around the back of her thighs, he lifted up off the chair and walked toward the open deck door to their apartment. "Yeah, yeah. Now go put on that black number..." He winked as he dropped her back down on her feet. "I'll even wear your favorite yellow tie."

Laughing, she shook her head. "One year, Flack, did you ever really think we'd make it this far?" she asked, walking toward the bedroom.

"This and farther, Monroe," he replied with certainty, grinning to himself. His brow furrowed a moment later. "Hey, we still got that champagne?"

"Last I checked," she replied from the bedroom.

Flack rubbed his hands together. Tonight was going to be a night to remember.
