We be sheeple, yes we do, we be sheeple, how 'bout you?
Sokka is an ordinary human being with no special powers whatsoever. (Unless you count the power of AWESOME!!! Boo-yah!) This is something of a sore spot with him.
He identifies himself first and foremost as a warrior, although he's really more of a hunter/fisherman with some combat experience. The important thing to know is that although he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is, he is, in fact, better than YOU think he is. And most of the time he's not very bright, but he's actually very clever. He's fond of food (especially meat and dessert), sarcasm, explosions, television, explosions ON television, acting without thinking, crafting intricate plans (yes, there's a contradiction there -- he's also fond of being contradictory and hypocritical), his sister Katara (who he usually forgets is from an alternate universe), his chinchilla, semi-automatic weapons, and poetry. Yes, poetry.
He comes from a pre-industrial society -- there is some coal-fired steam power, but it's almost entirely used in war machinery -- so technology's a little new to him, but he IS something of a science nut.
And he talks like he's from 1990's Southern California. Go fig.
