“Oh my god…What the hell are you wearing?” Daisuke laughs.
Kai looks a bit weird at him. “A smoking…” he answers, a bit indignant.
“…grandpa’s funeral was last month Yutaka…”
“Very funny! But you look like a pimp!”
“You look like grandpa himself…Be sure that mom doesn’t see you, she’ll get a heart-attack…She was already scared he reincarnated into a sock…” Daisuke grins evil.
“Really…Can’t believe we have the same parents…” Kai groans.
“No me neither…”Daisuke laughs. “Anyway…What chick are you taking?”
“huh?”
”What chick! You’re not telling me you don’t even have a date…that will make you even more pathetic…”
“I’m not taking chickens to the prom…Those eggs will make a huge mess…”
“…Really Yutaka…Go find yourself a course: “how to make a joke”…cause this isn’t working…”
Kai groans to his older brother. Such a jerk.
“…Nice look…” Reita grins, as he sees his friend opening the door for him, while wearing a white blouse, a black pants, and a tie loose around his neck.
“Shut up Reita…” Uruha groans.
“You think Kai feels attracted to ties?”
“Shut UP Reita!” Uruha repeats.
Reita grins. He walks up to Uruha’s room. Lets himself fall on his bed as usual.
“Well…What is it that I had to come?” he asks relaxed.
“A last, desperate try from me to convince you to go too…” Uruha sighs.
“Why?”
“Cause I need you there.”
Reita looks weird at him.
“Don’t look so ridiculous at me Reita,” Uruha says. “It’s normal. I just need you to be there as my friend…”
“Why Uru? It’s just a prom…”
“It’s not JUST a prom…”
“Yes it is! You always used to hate those things!”
“I still hate it…” Uruha mumbles.
“Then why are you going? And why am I supposed to come too? I hate them even more…And you don’t need me! You’re not an 11 years old boy! I don’t need to hold your hand…” Reita says non-understanding.
“OH AKIRA! Don’t you get it?” Uruha shouts, while he’s messing with his tie.
“…You called me Akira…”
“Yes.”
“Then it has to be serious…”
“It also fucking is…”
“Well, for gods damn sake Uru, tell me the problem then!”
Uruha sighs, he lets himself fall on the bed, next to Reita, who is partial sitting.
Reita looks down next to him, where Uruha is laying down, sees Uruha closing his eyes, and taking a deep breath. His blouse half-open, his tie hanging on his bare chest, which is going up, and then down again as he breathes out.
Uruha opens his eyes again. Sees Reita staring at him, with surprised eyes.
He looks concerned… He never is…Or he hides it.
Uruha takes one other breath, and for the first time in ages, he looks Reita in his eyes again. He stopped doing that since…He fancied him…
He fell in love with those eyes…Years ago. Reita was his first male crush. Now those eyes were looking at him with the concern of a guy, worrying about his best friend.
Uruha smiles. “You don’t have to be so worried…”
“Then why am I here?” He says.
“Cause I need you, like I said. I need you to support me in the most stupid decision of my life…”
“Which is?”
“I’m going to confess Reita…”
“Confess?” he says. “Confess…To Kai?”
Uruha nods, he sighs, and still stares at his friends face, who now stares to the wall next to the bed. He looks like he is thinking about it. Uruha sees a small wrinkle between his eyebrows, he sees him blinking with his eyes, he sees his lips pressed together. Uruha knows he is thinking about it.
He suddenly is surprised about how easy it is to read that kind of stuff from Reitas face…He waits for the answer his friend didn’t gave him yet.
“Well…” Uruha says then. “This is the part where you have to tell me that I am the most stupid idiot ever…”
“I told you that so many times, that I don’t think it’s necessary to do it again.” Reita grins.
“So you think it’s a stupid idea?” Uruha asks. He lifts his upper body a bit up, so his face comes closer to Reitas.
Reita pulls his head back, that distance was him a bit too short.
Uruha grins, he was already surprised. Reita let him come more close. Most of the time he immediately jumps up as he lets himself drop next to him.
Then Reita sighs. “I don’t know. Why do you want to confess tonight?”
“Cause…Cause…Good one…” Uruha says.
“See? You don’t even have a good reason…”
“I do! I want to…tell him what I feel…”
“But why tonight?”
“Why not?”
Reita sighs again. “I just think you have to be sure Uru…I don’t want you to…” He doesn’t finish his sentence.
“You don’t want me to…what?”
Reita is silent.
“You think he’s going to reject me eh?” Uruha says sad.
Reita shrugs. “I have no idea Uruha…Maybe he doesn’t…Maybe he does…”
Uruha lays back again. “It’s not that I expect him to…answer my feelings…”
“Then why-“
“Cause I can’t go on like this! I can’t stay friends with him without knowing what he thinks!” Uruha says, his voice sounds desperate…He needs Reitas advice…But he doesn’t take enough with a no…
“Okay…But…Uru…”
“yes?”
“I don’t want to see you hurt again….I don’t want to see you heartbroken again…” Reita really sounds concerned. “So please Uru…Don’t say it straight away…Give some hints, see if he answers them…Then…try to find out what he thinks…Maybe even flirt…But do not say “I love you Kai,” straight away…”
Uruha had closed his eyes while Reita said that, now he opens them again. His friends eyes are begging him.
“Please Uru…Don’t do anything stupid…Be sure…Don’t do it before you’re sure…”
Uruha is surprised.
“Reita…” He says then slowly. “I never saw you so worried about me…”
Reita mumbles something Uruha can’t hear properly.
“Sorry?” He grins. “What did you just say?”
“I said…Never mind.” Reita mumbles.
“No, no! What did you say?” Uruha now looks serious. “Why are you so worried that I’ll break my heart? You won’t suffer from that…”
“Of course I will! You dumb-ass!”
“How? You won’t feel it…”
“Oh URU! Just keep in your mind that I do fucking care about you!” he says frustrated. After he spoke those words he seems to realize what he said.
Uruha grins.
“I love you too!” He laughs.
“That is not…I did not…Oh! Never mind…” Reita mumbles. “As long as you keep in your mind what I said…”
“I will…Don’t worry…” Uruha smiles. Then he stands up from his bed. “Well…Can you help me with this fucking tie?”
“So…” His father asks. “Are you ready?”
“I guess so…” Ruki grins.
“Well, you look fine son! A real stud!” His father smiles. “ All girls will love you! But heard your date is a lovely girl too eh?”
“Please stop talking…” Ruki mumbles. His dad is so embarrassing…
“Okay, okay…I see…Not for old men…”
“Indeed dad…”
“Well, go pick up your date Takanori! She’ll be waiting impatiently…”
“Pfff…”
“What? Aren’t you looking forward to your prom?”
“Well…Don’t know…” Ruki mumbles. He doesn’t want to talk to his dad, not those talks. With his dad he talks about the weather or sports. Not about his problems as a teenaged boy.
His dad seems a bit insulted. He sits back on the couch and unfolds his paper.
Then Rukis mother enters.
“Oh honey! You look so good!” She smiles.
Ruki mumbles something.
“Stop it Sakura, he doesn’t want to look good in our opinion. Cause we are old, and we don’t get youth. Isn’t that right Takanori?” His dad says grumpy.
“I did not say that!” Ruki shouts indignant.
“Shush, shush…” His mother says. “Leave it Takanori! He is just grumpy cause he found another wrinkle this morning…But you really look good love! Your date won’t believe her eyes!”
Ruki tries to force a smile. His mother notices. Mothers always notice…Stupid natural gift to sense their child’s problems.
“What is it love? Aren’t you looking forward to the prom?”
“Eh…I don’t know…” Ruki mumbles.
“Oh, but it can be real fun!” His mother smiles. “And I can tell…And you have a nice date right?”
“Well…I hope so…”
“Ah, is it the wrong girl?”
“There wasn’t really a right one…” Ruki mumbles. “And she asked me, and I still don’t get why she asked me…”
“Cause you are a nice, handsome guy…She thinks she’ll have a nice evening with you! So…go give her that nice evening love!” His mother smiles. “Or…Don’t you think you’ll have a nice evening with her?”
Ruki shrugs. “Don’t know…She seems nice…”
“Well…Try to make it the best!” His mother smiles, and she caresses Ruki through his hair.
Ruki pulls his head away. “Mom!” He says indignant.
“Oh sorry dear…” She still smiles.
“I go pick her up then…See you later!”
“Are you sure you don’t need a ride?” His dad shouts.
“Eh…Yes dad…” Ruki says embarrassed. “pretty sure…”
His mother smiles. “Be careful on the road with your bike ok? And don’t drink too much!”
“Yes, yes…” Ruki mumbles. “Bye!”
Kai presses the doorbell of the apartment.
It takes several seconds before the door is answered by a small woman with a friendly face. Kai can immediately see that she is Emi’s mother. Now he suddenly realizes that he never been at Emi’s place before…Even though they are friends for years now…
“Ah!” the lady smiles as she opens the door. “You must be Yutaka!”
“Yes miss...” Kai smiles polite.
“Lovely to meet you, finally! Emi told me a lot about you! Come in, dear boy…Come in!” She smiles, and she steps aside.
“Eh…” Kai doesn’t know if they have time for that.
“Emi is almost done, please come in!” the woman insists.
“Okay…” Kai smiles, and he enters.
The apartment is not very big, but also not small. And comfortable…Quite cosy.
A tall guy is sitting on the couch, watching TV. He seems too young to be Emi’s dad, far too young. Though Kai never heard her talk about a brother.
The guy looks up, and then stands up. Bows his head to Kai, and says hello.
He is almost as tall as Uruha…Probably taller.
Strange, Emi really is a small girl…And her mother also is a short woman. But maybe he has it from her dad.
“Emi will be done in a few minutes.” Emi’s mother smiles. “ Please! Take a seat…Can I offer you a drink?”
“Eh…” Kai thinks it is impolite to refuse the offer. “Eh well, yes please…”
The woman smiles, and walks to what probably is the kitchen.
Kai and the, for him, unknown guy are left behind.
The guy kind of ignores Kai, he keeps on watching to the TV.
Kai sits on the couch, a bit uncomfortable, waiting for Emi, or her mother, to come.
Her mother comes back with a cup of tea for Kai.
“here you go…” she smiles.
“thank you very much…” Kai says.
“Ah! I understand what Emi said about you! Such a polite boy…Isn’t he Katsuro-kun?”
The guy, who hadn’t said something up till now, smiles to the lady. “Yes, he quite is, love…”
Love? Kai doesn’t get it. Who is that guy?
Then suddenly a door opens, and Emi appears.
“Yutaka!” she says shocked. “I…I didn’t hear…Didn’t knew you already were here…Sorry!” She blushes.
Kai, who immediately jumped up as he saw her entering the room, now stares at her for a few seconds. He knows Emi for a long time…he knew she isn’t ugly…But now…She really is beautiful…
Kai smiles. “wow…” he mumbles softly, then realizes that he is impolite.
Emi smiles shy. “Shall we go?”
“Oh! Yes, let’s go…Thanks for the tea madam!” Kai smiles to Emi’s mother.
“Bye, bye!” She says as they leave the apartment.
As they come outside, and Kai walks to his bicycle, Emi starts talking.
“I’m…I’m really sorry to keep you waiting…Did my mother embarrass you?”
“Huh?” Kai asks surprised, while trying to open the lock of his bike. “No, no…She seems nice! Not embarrassing at all…”
“Ah…Okay!” Emi sounds relieved.
“No, she really was nice to me.” Kai smiles. “And now I also met your brother!”
“My…My brother?”
‘Yes!” Kai smiles.
“Eh…Yutaka…I don’t…He is not my brother…” She mumbles.
“Oh…Then you really have a…young dad…”
“He isn’t…my dad either…”
“Then…I don’t get it?” Kai smiles.
Emi looks embarrassed. “Eh…He is…My…My mothers lover…” She mumbles very softly.
Kai looks a bit perplexed. “Ah…I see…”
“Don’t hate me now!” Emi says begging.
Kai looks surprised. “Why…Should I hate you for that?”
“It…Is weird…I know it is…I mean…My dad will come home in a few hours…and now he is still in our apartment…I know that it is weird…” Emi blushes and looks so embarrassed.
“Well…” Kai smiles to comfort her. “That has nothing to do with you…And now get on my bicycle!”
Emi smiles too, and sits at the back of his bike, holding Kai’s middle with her hands.
“let’s go!” Kai smiles. He does not regret asking Emi, but though…He wishes that it was Reita behind him now…Well, maybe the other way around, cause Reita isn’t really the type to sit at the back of a bike…Yes…He’ll cycle, and Kai would put his arms around his middle. Around his strong upper-body.
“Yutaka? Are you listening?” Emi asks.
“Huh?” Kai says, disturbed from his fantasies.
Then there is a silence…
Emi probably is embarrassed cause of her mom, and she now thinks Kai regrets inviting her. Of course he doesn’t, at least…he didn’t invite her cause he fancies her…
But that she knows, she fancies Uruha anyway. And so she probably knows too that they’re going as friends…But Kai has to give her the feeling that he does not regret asking her…He also doesn’t, really. He just would have preferred someone else, but that is different matter…he isn’t going with him, he is going with Emi, and she looks beautiful tonight. And she is nice of course.
She made herself really beautiful, especially for this evening. She wants to have a nice evening…Well, Kai can give her a nice evening…Or at least he’ll make sure she has one…
“You look really beautiful…” Kai smiles, even though she can’t see him smiling, she can hear at his voice he does.
Kai can feel that she blushes.
“Thank you…” She mumbles.
A silence for a few minutes. Then they are arrived at the school.
“Okay! Here we are…” Kai smiles. “Give me a second, I’ll park my bicycle in the cycle shed…”
“Kai-kun!” Aki smiles, as he walks into the shed, together with Uruha.
Kai smiles too. “Hey guys.”
Uruha grins. He feels nervous, but though happy…But of course he always feels happy when Kai is around…He is going to do it…He is going to do it tonight. He feels it, he is sure of it.
Yes he is going to follow Reita’s advice. He’ll flirt, give hints, and find out what Kai feels.
And…well what he’ll do with the girl…he’ll see…he’ll probably dance with her for a while, and then make sure that another guy will steal her from him.
He just didn’t want to go alone…But he already noticed that his date isn’t actually his type…He’ll find a way to get rid of her later. Auch, that sounds mean…But it has to be that way.
“You look good Kai!” Uruha smiles (Hint number one…).
“Haha! Thanks…I have to say, that smoking doesn’t look bad on you either!” Kai smiles.
“Hey? What about me? I’m the stud of the prom!” Aki shouts grinning.
“Of course Aki, but since you are occupied!” Uruha grins.
“Ha! Scary man!” Aki laughs. “But yes! I am “occupied” as you call it! So…where are your dates?” he asks to Kai and Uruha.
“She’s waiting outside the shed…” Kai smiles. “I should go back…”
“Yeah, me too…” Uruha mumbles with a lot of aversion .
“Wow, man, sounds like you’re looking forward to this eve?” Aki asks.
“Well…I kind of chose the wrong girl…” Uruha answers.
“Aw, that sucks…” Kai says, and he gives him a small smack on the shoulder. “try to make the bestof it!”
“ I will!” Uruha grins. Oh yes, he will…And Aki made him think of an idea…Acting like Aki! If he would act like Aki always used to do (according to Kai and Ruki), he could get rid of his date in no time! Yes, brilliant plan…
They get out of the shed, and they see Masumi waiting next to Emi. Emi is silent and shy, Masumi cheerful and seems a bit nervous.
As she sees Aki come, she smiles, she looks shy now too, but with a spark in her eyes that makes her look adorable.
Aki grins, and kisses her on her head. “Shall we go inside?”
Masumi nods.
They walk away, and Uruha looks around for his date. He sees her standing at the fence, talking to two familiar persons.
At least, she is talking to a girl and her date.
And her date really is familiar, Ruki. But…That girl…Is…
“Hey…” Kai suddenly mumbles. “Isn’t that…Tsubame?”
“Seems so…” Uruha says, he looks at Kai from the corners of his eyes, trying to see his reaction. After all, this girl used to have a huge crush on him…And Ruki is his best friend.
But Kai doesn’t seem to care.
He only shrugs, takes Emi at her hand and walks over to Ruki, Tsubame and Uruha’s date. Uruha follows.
“Hey guys…” Ruki grins uncomfortable. He looks nervous at Kai, as if he wants to say: “you don’t mind…don’t you? Please don’t mind…”
But Kai smiles. “Hey Ruki-kun! Ready for tonight?”
“Oh, yes kind of…” But it seems that he, like Uruha, has not really much interest in tonight’s event.
”Oh, come on Takanori!” Tsubame smiles. “We’re going to have a nice time!”
“We are?” Ruki mumbles.
Uruha grins. “So, Tsubame…Is it your fault that poor Reita has to work now?”
“Poor who?”
“Eh Akira I mean…” Uruha grins.
”Eh, well he has to work anyway…But yes…kind of…But who cares? He didn’t want to go anyway…”
“He didn’t?” Ruki says. “So he could just…not go?”
“Yes! Sad eh?” Tsubame says.
But Ruki looks more like he regrets he just didn’t go…
Kai looks a bit weird. “Well…It’s sad he isn’t here…”
“Why?” Tsubame continues. “I mean, I know he can be nice…But he is so…grumpy always!”
“Hey!” Kai says indignant. “He’s our friend!”
“Oh…sorry, but you have to admit he is a bit-“
“Tsubame!” Ruki says.
“Sorry…” She mumbles.
Kai looks angry at her. Then he shakes his head to Ruki, who doesn’t look happy at all. Uruha sighs, Ruki must learn not to count only on the looks of a girl…
“Awrgh,” he thinks straight after that. “Hear who says that? The guy that just took the first cute-looking girl, only not to go alone…”
Uruha looks at his date again.
She is staring at other couples passing, and then a bit indignant at Uruha. As in: “why aren’t we dancing yet? And why aren’t you holding my hand?”
Oh god…he has to get rid of her soon…
“So…” Ruki mumbles. “Shall we go inside then?”
“Yes…” A soft voice says, and Ruki looks at Emi for the first time this evening.
He stares at her like he never saw her before…
“Sorry…” Emi mumbles, cause she thinks Ruki is staring at her cause she did something weird. “it’s just that…I am a bit…cold…”
“Oh,” Kai smiles. “Sorry Emi, and you are right Ruki…Let’s go inside.” But he seems a bit less cheerful. Tsubame ruined his mood.
And Ruki looks like he wants to run away.
He sends a glance to Uruha, who looks back the same way.
“This is going to be a fun evening…” Ruki mumbles as they walk next to each other, with their girls at their arms.
“Then…” Uruha mumbles from the corner of his mouth. “Lets make it fun…We made the same mistake Ruki…But…Mistakes can be undone…” And he grins.
“You’re evil!” Ruki mumbles back. ‘But I like your idea.”
Inside it is busy, warm, and music is echoing through their ears. Kai had danced with Emi for several times, he got her some punch, he had a few nice chats with her. And he sees now how she shines.
He feels satisfied about that, he did what he intended to do. Give Emi a nice evening. She now has one, of course it’s not over yet. But he amused her, and now she is happy.
She’ll have nice memories about this evening.
Kai smiles to her, she smiles back.
“So,” he says, a bit loud cause of the music. “Are you having a fun time?”
“Yes! Oh Yuta-kun, thank you so much!” She smiles. She really shines, also cause she’s a bit sweaty. “I know you didn’t really intend to go with me…But I really had a wonderful evening up till now! Thank you so much!”
“I eh…” Kai hesitates. It was right what she said, he didn’t intend taking her. But to literally say to her face that she is a second choice? Never.
“Yutaka…Are you amusing yourself?” Emi asks then.
And again Kai doesn’t know what to say. “Eh, yes…”
“No…” Emi shakes her head. “You are not…”
“I…No, I…I’m so sorry Emi-kun, it really is NOT your fault! It’s just that…”
“Your…crush is here with someone else?”
Kai looks perplexed at her. Then he shakes his head. “My…My crush isn’t here at all…”
“Oh…” Emi says. She looks like she is sorry for Kai. “But…Then you should go to your crush!”
“What?”
“Yes! Yuta-kun, when I couldn’t ask Kouyou, you helped me. Now I’m helping you! Go to her! She’d appreciate it! I’m sure she will Yutaka!” And she pulls Kai away from his chair.
“Emi-kun, I don’t know if this is a good idea…” Kai mumbles.
“Yes! It is!” She says.
Kai laughs. She suddenly has a lot of authority in her voice.
As she pulls Kai back to the silent corridors of the school, heading for the head-entrance, they bump into two lonely figures, who seem a bit drunk. But are though laughing and grinning.
Uruha and Ruki, are both sitting with their back against the wall.
Their dates are nowhere to find.
“Kai-kun!” Ruki shouts cheerful.
Drunk as always.
“Hey Kai!” Uruha smiles.
“Trying to escape, are we?” Ruki laughs. “Heading for the cycle-shed with E-Emi-chan?”
“Eh…No Ruki…” Kai says annoyed.
“Liar!” Ruki laughs.
“Where is Tsubame?” Kai asks.
“Gone!” Ruki says, way less cheerful suddenly. “I spoiled punch over her…”
Uruha laughs.
“Oh shut up Uru! You just grabbed another girl, and said you hadn’t seen the difference! I would have slapped you too!” Ruki grins evil.
And Uruha rubs over his left cheek, where, if you look carefully, you can see a print of a few fingers. The girl seemed to have long nails, cause two scratches blot the beauty of Uruha’s cheek.
“Anyway…I leave you here Yutaka!” Emi smiles. “See what you’ll do…And…thank you so, so much for the nice evening!” She blushes, and then turns around.
Ruki gasps at her, while she passes him. “Eh…Emi-chan! Wait!” He says and he hurries after her.
Uruha laughs. He is a bit drunk, but sober enough to do what he intended to do this night. And this is the perfect opportunity…
“Well,” he laughs. “ that is the second time he takes a girl from you!”
“Nah,” Kai says. “I don’t care…And by the way: Neither, Tsubame nor Emi, were my girls…I rejected Tsubame, and took Emi with me…cause…Well I wanted her to feel better…”
“Why did she feel bad then?” Uruha asks surprised. He thought Emi was more cheerful then ever…Especially tonight.
“Oh well…Actually…Cause of you…”
“What!? What did I do?”
“Nothing you could do anything about,” Kai shrugs. “so don’t be insulted or worried, I, nor does Emi, blame you.” He smiles.
“But what did I do?” Uruha repeats.
“She wanted to…ask you for the prom, but you were already going with someone…” Kai puts a smile after the sentence, his way to make sure to Uruha that he does not blame him anything.
“Ah…I see…” Uruha says. “hey! Where are you going?” he asks surprised as he sees that Kai opens the door of the head-entrance.
“Oh…I want to take a walk…I have to… put some things straight in my head, it’s quite chaotic there now…And…Maybe I’ll take an important decision…” Kai sighs. “So…Bye, see you soon…Have a nice evening…”
“Wait!” Uruha shouts, as Kai walks through the door. “I’ll join you!”
And Uruha runs after Kai, who looks a bit surprised.
“At least…” Uruha says then hesitating. “If you don’t mind…”
“No, no I don’t mind…Maybe…a bit company isn’t bad at all…” Kai smiles.
They walk out of the school building.
For a long time neither of them speak, but then Uruha breaks through the silence.
“Eh…Kai, about…Emi…” Uruha starts. “I…I really feel sorry for it…But…I know that she’d have a more nice evening with you then with me…”
“Huh?” Kai says surprised. “Why? She fancies you, not me, I’m even doubting if she isn’t falling in love with you…And…People want to be with the ones they love…”
“Yes…that may be true, but friends are loved-ones too… And maybe she fancies me, but… I don’t fancy her. I would have…given her a bad memory…Maybe not from this night…But sooner or later, I would have given her a bad memory. Now she hasn’t…That is a good thing.”
Kai smiles. “I guess you are right…”
“And besides, I don’t think she is that much in love with me…And I have the presumption she and Ruki are going to have a cosy time!” Uruha grins.
Kai laughs. “That actually would be good…Ruki and Emi would make a good couple!”
Uruha nods and grins.
Then the silence returns.
“So…” Uruha keeps the conversation up. “About who are you thinking?”
“Hm?” Kai asks. “Sorry…what did you say?”
“About who are you thinking?” Uruha smiles. “Cause it is obvious you are thinking about someone…”
“Me? Eh…” Kai blushes.
“You don’t have to tell me the name…” Uruha shrugs. “But don’t deny that you are thinking about someone…The way you are acting right now, blushing, staring at the night-sky with a smile on your face…It’s obvious!”
Kai blinks surprised with his eyes.
Uruha realizes that he maybe must not let him know how much attention he gave to the way he was walking, well…too late now.
“Well…” Kai smiles ashamed. “I, I am thinking about someone lately…”
Uruha grins.
A few steps in silence, then he continues talking.
“It’s a nice feeling eh?”
“hmm?” Kai asks.
“ Being in love…It’s a wonderful feeling…The way everything your crush does is beautiful, the way everything is good and…the feeling nothing can harm you.”
Kai smiles. “you…You can describe it well…”
“Yes, “ Uruha smiles. “I’m not completely un-experienced…So I also know that…It is really difficult to take the risk…”
“Take what risk?” Kai asks.
“Taking the risk of telling how you feel. The risk of an rejection…Nobody wants to be rejected, though sometimes it is unavoidable…And, well…love isn’t something that stays silent, nobody can keep it a secret. Love for another person…Comes out, sooner or later it will come out. Which is a good thing…”
“But…” Kai says softly. “ What if I don’t take the risk…”
“Then you’ll never know what your crush feels…And it will bother you for the rest of your life…For not knowing…It’ll hunt you, and the love won’t go over. You can get over rejection, but you can’t get over the emptiness of not knowing. Believe me Kai…It is better to take the risk.
All wounds heal, even broken hearts. Maybe it’ll hurt for a long time…But it will heal.
And of course…There is also a big chance that you won’t be rejected…And I think that is the best gift someone can give you…”
Kai stares at Uruha, who looks Kai in his eyes.
Please, Uruha thinks. Understand my hint and my feelings.
“Uruha…” Kai mumbles.
His voice, though soft, sounds decisive.
”Thank you…” He smiles. A light of brave is sparking in his eyes. “I know what I’ll do now…But can you tell me one last thing?”
“Of course…” Uruha hopes his voice doesn’t sound too hopeful. But a presumption is coming up, he can feel it.
“Ha! I win again!” Aoi grins.
The bastard he already won for, like what? Seven times?
They’re playing cards at the bar. Cause there are hardly any customers and they were bored stuck. It was the most quiet Friday night ever, after dinner time, just one or two customers came.
It all was cause of the prom, cause all teenagers who used to hang out here, were from Reitas school.
”You cheat!” Reita grins to Aoi, sitting next to him at the other side of the bar.
“Huh? Oooh!” Aoi puts, with a shocked face, his hands for his mouth. “How dare you! I never cheat, I’m as honest as can be!”
”Then why , while you put your honest hands in front of your honest mouth, are there two cards fallen out of your sleeve?”
“Oh!” Aoi says indignant. While Reita picks up the cards and holds them in front of Aoi’s face, he is grinning.
“I never saw those cards in my life before!” Aoi says, with an overdone voice.
“Liar! I convict you for getting me another beer cause of cheating! From the house!” Reita grins.
“How do I know you are not the one cheating?” Aoi grins.
“Cause I am losing all the time, perhaps? Now get me that beer!”
“Ha! You’re not even allowed to drink alcohol yet! And I want to see your cards!” Aoi laughs, and he bows over the bar and tries to look at Reitas cards.
“Hey!” Reita shouts laughing, as Aoi pulls his wrist down, while falling on the bar.
He falls on his stomach, and now simply lies half over the bar, with his face to Reita.
Aoi grins, and pulls Reita down too.
“Show me your cards!” He whispers in Reitas ear. “Or I’ll do very scary things…”
“Hey!” Reita says indignant. And he pulls his head back. “Man, you are scaring me!”
Aoi laughs, and rolls over the bar, till he lays at his back.
“Stop laughing!” Reita grins. “It wasn’t funny!”
“Yes it was! You are laughing too!” Aoi says teasing.
Reita wants to open his mouth, but then looks surprised at the doors of the restaurant.
They open, and a well-known person steps inside.
“Huh?” Reita says. “What are you doing here? Why aren’t you at the prom?”
“I eh…I…”
“Want a drink?” Aoi says cheerful, as he jumps up from the bar.
The guy shakes his head.
Aoi groans. “Always the same with you! You keep on popping in and out, but never a drink! You are not good for my profit kid!”
“Shut up Aoi…” Reita grins. “But why are you here?”
“I…I…”
”Today, if possible…” Aoi says bored.
“I came to talk to you!” Kai points at Reita.
Reita looks surprised.
They are standing in the corridor behind the bar, since Kai said he has to talk to him in private.
What does Kai want from him?
Why isn’t he at the prom? With Uruha?
“Oh god…Uruha…” Reita thinks. Is Kai here cause of Uruha?
It is possible…But still, why? To tell Reita to keep Uruha away from him? To tell Reita that he loves Uruha?
Or is eh here for a different reason?
“Eh…What is it you want to talk about then?” Reita asks a bit hesitating. He has a small presumption he actually doesn’t want to know why…
“I…” Kai mumbles. “I talked to Uruha…”
“Oh god…” Reita thinks. “there you’ve got it…”
“And…And he convinced me to…He…” Kai stutters.
Reita looks at him, Kai looks…Nervous. Really nervous.
“What…What did he say?” Reita asks.
“He…He told me…He…helped me decide something…To do something that bothers me for a long time…”
“Huh?” Reita says surprised. What is this? What is Kai talking about? Did Uruha confess or…Is this about something completely different?
“What…is it that bothers you then?” Reita asks.
Kai looks up at Reitas face.
Reita sees a spark in his eyes, he is nervous…But also very determined. Though his big eyes, make Reita feel uncomfortable.
There is something in Kais eyes…That is begging him. Begging him to do what?
“Kai?” Reita asks hesitating, since he didn’t gave him an answer yet. “What…What is it that bothers you?”
Kai takes a breath, but keeps on looking Reita in the eyes.
“You are…” He says then.
And before Reita really realizes what happens, he feels Kais lips against his.
He feels the lips, of a guy asking for love…
