How do you measure a year?

Dec 31, 2006 11:39

I was supposed to get up and clean out my car today. I've been planning to do it all week. And then I wake up to the sound of rain falling on the patio outside my room.
So, scratch that plan I suppose. It can wait til wednesday...

Today is New Years Eve...damn. Has a year flown by already? I love how I always seem suprised by the fact that we have reached the end of the year. It's usually because the months from October to now seem to go by on warp speed. Those are my busiest months with school and preschool and working retail, there's not very many moments to stop and breathe.

2006 was a good year. I think I'm finally hitting a stride where I can say that the past year was good, rather than being incredibly glad to see it pass me by. I was getting tired of feeling like I had failed or screwed up in the preceeding year. It's nice to feel at peace with, or better yet proud of, what I've accomplished.

Things certainly are a lot different for me now than they were when 2006 started. I have a new, fantastic job, where I work with people I absolutely adore. I graduated from college and completed all of my necessary schooling. I made new wonderful friends and branched out from my old ones. I moved into a fabulous new apartment with my best friend. I [finally!] bought a new car! I lost my grandmother. I became more comfortable around my grandfather and grew to actually enjoy his company. Owen was born and brought my family a lot of joy. And I fell in love with an absolutely amazing and incredible man.

I'm proud of myself and the things that I did this year. I certainly think I managed to do alright for myself. I like when I look back and I am happy with the choices that I made or the paths that I chose to take. It's a nice feeling to be content with where you are and how you get there. I deserve to feel this way after so many years of feeling like a failure.

So, this year I decided to make a few Ne Years resolutions. It's been about two years since I made any, but I feel like it's important this year.

1) Be happy with myself, who I am and the choices that I make.
2) Be a better friend. I don't want to disppoint anyone or let anyone down, I will try to be there for all of my friends whenever they may need me.
3) Keep promises, both to myself and to others.
4) Treat everyone around me with the utmost respect, despite their treatment of me.
5) Live my life to it's fullest and not compromise my happiness for anything or annyone.

And now, since everything else I would like to write about is too private or personal to lay out there for anyone to see I'll finish with a .
