I'd say this is cause for someone to start a charity auction. At 2:46 p.m. local time, an 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck 125 km (80 miles) off the coast of Japan at a depth of 10 km. Because it was shallow, it has had great impact, and being off the coast, it has caused a tsunami. Warnings have been issued for New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, and others. A 10 meter high tsunami hit the coast of Japan soon after the earthquake, sweeping ships and cars inland. Currently, 4 million homes in Tokyo are without power. Shinkansen (bullet trains), subways and Sendai, Narita and Haneda Airports have shut down. This is the largest earthquake in all of Japan's recorded history and seventh in the world's recorded history. Aftershocks, which on their own would have been classified as significant earthquakes, have been as strong as 7.1. Sendai in the Miyagi Prefecture has been the most strongly affected.
32 people have been declared dead. Many more are missing, and the numbers are set to climb as the destruction from the tsunami is tallied.
Footage: Some is repetitive, some of the facts are not as recent as the ones above. I'll try to update soon.
