I’ve met 8 neither through other groups, their songs, perfs, nor concerts, but through the Chronicle show. Around April, a certain web page that I’m following started subbing Ikemen Camera and English Tel. Game segments in Thai. 8 was seriously funny and gradually piqued my interest. Yeah, I’m no different than other Eighters who love 8 because of their funniness and happy atmosphere. First I thought they were a bunch of actors (I tend to assume that everyone appearing on screen is actor XD). Then I guessed they were comedians. Finally I learned that they were actually a JE’s idol group. WTH!?! For real?? This is an idol group who doesn’t seem to care about their images, doesn’t give a shit if they don’t look cool or hot (sounds funny but you get what I mean, right?).

I was skeptic at first. But as I watched more and more of them, I fell for their unique personalities, I guessed. Nothing to do with their music, sadly. They looked very natural together and seemed to be very close to each other. My first impression watching Ikemen Camera was like this:
- there’s that super strict but funny MC
- a tall, black-haired guy who was so talkative and tried to look cool all the time but FAILED
- another tall, good-looking guy whose laugh was so funny and infectious
- yet another tall guy with sharp wits and airheaded comments who probably was the clown of the group. And very unfortunately was paired up with…
- that tan-skinned, handsome guy with sharp tongue, apparently biting everyone else’s head off
- a short guy who always made weird faces but seemed to be kinda cute at the same time
- another short guy with piercing eyes who looked quite intimidating (to me)

Then I started doing some research on 8, looking them up on the Internet, Wiki, YouTube, and ultimately landed on LJ. In between those times I stumbled across their PVs and which was the first PV I decided to watch? Zukkoke Otokomichi. Yeah, it pretty much confirmed how crazy 8 really was (and still is).

Also during that time I have collected a bunch of 8 pics in their early years. Those pics struck me as how hot Maru-chan was. In my biased point of view, he was the hottest guy in the group, despite his crazy acts, poses, and weird faces making which guaranteed to completely ruin his hotness. Next I had a chance to watch EightxEigther con and it totally blew my mind seeing them doing a live performance. It's like my admiration meter towards 8 has significantly gone way up, very very high. And the very moment I saw Maru with his bass, it’s a done deal. It's over. THE END. No one else could ever change my mind about an ichiban in 8, ever. I’d blame my preference over bassists. But still, Flea (of RHCP) doesn’t has an impact on me like Maru does. You can say that Flea isn’t that handsome. Sorry, Flea. But you are way more talented though. XD

*Warning: heavy fangirling ahead*
There’s more to Maru than his outer appearances. He’s a kind soul. He’s cute, funny, caring, super pervy, thinks too much sometimes, has almost philosophical thoughts other times. You can fill in the blanks for the rest please as I have yet to learn more about this awesome man.

In summary, 8 may not be the best looking group out there. But there are much more aspects of them to be loved and admired. Mostly I love the fact that they don’t try to look cool or whatever. If they do that, I’d quickly lose my interest and just go listen to real musicians instead.

Ok, how come this turns out to be like an essay writing? XD It should be posted on my own blog, not someone else’s. Sorry for a very lengthy gibberish. I’ll be off now.

Hahaha don't worry about writting long essays here. Who am I to even say anything about it when I write a mini-bible every comment? lol I love long answers, so no worries ^^

I feel you, friend! Hahaha the way you described Subaru is exactly how my first impression was too! His eyes were so deep, his stare so piercing that it was like he was staring into my soul! I thouhgt he was scary xD But then I totally fell for his "intense" ways and emotions, and he was actually my first bias before Maru (besides being Ryo-baited). I actually wanted to be a Subaru fan because I used to like the guys who sing, but if there's one thing a decade of being a fan of groups thought me is that we don't chose who we're going to like, so... I ended up with Maru, and I remember the exact moment I fell for him, it was when I was watching 47 Concert Tour and he was all crazy during Sukiyanen Osaka and I liked his random craziness, and the rest is history.

I see you got hooked by their variety side, not the music. It's the most usual route! Since Eito is very strong in variety (by that I mean tv shows), they attract attention for that. People thinking they're commedians is a classic! Hahahaa happens every day. They're so funny that people mistake them for comedians (if that isn't being good entertainers I don't know what is). Some people join the fandom from the actor side too, especially Ryo fans, who discover him from a drama and come over to Kanjani. In my case, I watched a japanese drama, loved the main actor to death, found out he was a singer and had a group (which was Aarshi), became addicted to said group, found out there were more like them in their agancy, goes saerching for groups that are funny, gets suggested kanjani8 a million times and ignores it, finally sees Ryo randomly and thinks he's cute and eventually meet that group people kept saying was funny and learns they're called Kanjani8.
Also, you described everything they way it was for me, too. I've knows idols from before, I knew what they were supposed to be and look like, and Eito was nothing of that. They were funny, clumsy, loud, ugly guys who talk about farts on broadcast, like... COME ON. There has to be something about them, this is not normal hahahaha I reacted the same way. Is this really an idol group? Did they just say what I think they said? No idol groups say things like that OMG who are these crazy dudes?? I loved that. Really, if it wasn't for their weirdness I wouldn't be here today. This is what hooked me, and the continuous improvement in music capes to my music-lover side enough to make me proud as a fan ^^

Funny you mentioned Flea, he used to be my favorite bassist (still is), but Maru is waaaaay hotter lol And I agree with everything you said about Maru, I see him as a contasting person, sometimes he1s hyper, sometimes he's reflexive, with those phylosofical thoughts 'what's the meaning of life'-like xD

Hahahaha. I agree with you that Ryo is a gigantic magnet bait attracting almost everyone who has laid eyes upon the group. A considerable amount of girls here go for him. And Subaru’s voice is so powerful. As for me, I like Tatsu’s voice the most among members. He has this deep, low-pitched, calm tone and is soothing to hear. Even Maru has a bit too high-pitched voice for my taste.

I feel a bit guilty that I’m not initially hooked by Eito music. I mean they have several upbeat, genki songs that are catchy. And I’m happy that they (or the producer) try to incorporate different musical genre into their works. I like You Can See more than Michi, so to speak. I wish one day Eito could have total control over their music in every aspects. That would be a bless.

You just couldn’t ignore Flea’s bass lines, could you? ;-D I reckon he’s one of the greatest bassists for the present time.

I don't think you should feel guilty, seriously, pretty much everyone that got hooked to Eito wasn't because of the music. Everyone is here for their goofy personas, good music is a plus, of course, but we keep loving them even when they release crappy songs :) And I sure hope they'll achieve a level where they can release an album only with their own songs and produced by themselves. They still have some way to go on that until they reach TOKIO's Nagase level

Ryo is the ultimate bait in this group hahaha Although I've met some people that were Yoko-baited.

Flea's bass xD That's exactly it, you can't ignore it even if you try. You still hear it even if you're not looking for it, it just stands out!

XD I'm so amused at your commenting some of Eito's songs are crappy! Which one do you find crappy specifically? I can think of some but I'd rather keep quiet. XP After all it depends on one's taste.

Oh, I'm excitedly waiting to see next KanJam show that Maru's been happily referring to. So curious as to see which genre it's gonna be.

Hahaha to be honest, there are many songs I find crappy xD Of course, it's all a matter of taste, so there's no right or wrong. Mainly, whenever they say they're releasing something as a drama/movie theme song I go "oh no". Those are usually public-friendly, innofensive songs that tend to be bland, generic and are neither fun nor intense or emotional/painful, they're just forgettable and boring (of course, there are exceptions). Some of Eito's title tracks I find boring (drama-related or not): Hibiki, Namida no Kotae, Ima (my God this song is so bland and forgettable how could this ever be a title track and the other JAM title track isn't much better either), the latest Kiseki no Hito and the top worst to me: Animal Magic. I don't think I ever listened to that song in full or finished watching its PV (like why does this even have a PV in the first place) and I don't think I'm the only one since even though it's a feature track it's never picked for concerts xD Thankfully, I very rarely (if ever) dislike a song they have composed themselves.
By the way, it's ok if you want to say which songs you don't like (I'm actually curious xD). I know some fans are 'sensitive', but I don't think being a fan means we have to love and approve of everything they do/say/release.
