Thanks so much for these info you have passed on to me. m(_ _)m I'm always happy to be able to learn more about Eito and their musical tastes, among many other things. I'm like a novice lv10 in an Ultimate Quest to Become an Eighter. XD

Unfortunately, I'm more familiar with international bands, meaning English-speaking, and not with Japanese ones. Frankly, I don't listen to J-music except for some anime and movie songs that caught my ears. So gotta do some digging on Maru's fave band. Hehehe.

I once read that Ryo likes Nirvana but am not so sure about that. Maybe I was wrong.

It's kinda strange for musicians that don't speak much about their musical preferences or influences. Oh! Does Eito consider themselves as an idol group rather than a musician band? Tbh, I don't quite understand the definition of a Japanese idol group. I would get it more if you just say they are boy band. Sigh...

Guess I have to watch more of Kanjam and do pray that someone would start subbing this show. I just love Eito performs as a band which, in my opinion, expressively shows how talented they really are.

I also wish Maru's bass lines could be more distinctively heard in many songs. Sometimes I absolutely couldn't hear his bass at all. Well, it isn't because he's my ichiban. But I always have a thing for bassists (and drummers) since I was young. I love bass's sound. And the world has too many greatest guitarists already.

Enough ranting. Sorry it's quite long.

I'm all for Maru getting more distinct bass lines too! But you know, I'm happy that his bass has been more proeminent in recent songs, maybe because he got better at it in recent years so they can show him off more now. Songs like NOROSHI, Tokyoholic, and specially Zou (the best song for Maru's bass, in my opinion!). I really loved his bass performance in the latest DVD (Eightertaiment). And well, to this day I haven't ran into any Maru fans who don't die for his bass hahahaha We all love his sillyness but his serious stance playing the bass is every Maru fan's biggest weakness xD

About the idol group thing, its definition in Asia is the same we use for boybands in the West, it's basically a group of people (boys or girls or mixed) who sing and dance together but have no creative control over their music, they're a product of an agency, and because of that many people don't consider them as real artists :( Eito strays a bit from the classic idol definition because they can compose music (although not all members) and they can play instruments, but still they don't have the freedom to release whatever they want, everything is controlled by Johnny's. They have been talking about what being a real band means recently, since they've started JAM (the TV show). JAM is the best thing that happened to them in the latest years, both in their own opinion and in fans' too. It really took them a step forward. The show has put them in contact with many musicians and producers and has shown them how they still need to improve as a band and has made them eager to get better at music. It also has lead to big opportunities like METROCK, which was the first time they performed for an audience of non-fans (which was a huge thing for them because they would be judged only by their talents and not by fans' baised eyes, so they practiced like crazy for that). In their own words, they still don't consider themselves as a real band, they still have a lot to improve on, specially in the production aspect (producing and arranging their own songs and stuff). They don't put themselves in the same status as a real band (not yet, at least), they say they are a mix of idol/band, and they introduce themselves as an idol group first and foremost. They're humble <3 Them performing as band is the biggest source of pride to Eighters, pretty much all of us love it, and I dare say most of us like the band side more than the idol side (I do). Also that they sing live (which, surprisingly, a lot of idols don't). Eighters are very proud of them for being more than conventional idols.

Oh, yeah, Ryo likes Nirvana too! Ryo the rock boy hahaha he likes it so much that his earpieces for concerts have the faces of John Lennon and Jimmy Hendrix on them xD Ryo is definitely the one who listens to international music the most, no wonder his English is the best among them by far.

Oh, and don't worry about being a new fan, learning stuff takes time, specially for a group that has been there for more than a decade, but if there's anything you want to know just ask, I'll be glad to help out if I can ^^ By the way, I'm curious, how did you discover Eito? What made you like them, and Maru specially? Back when I became a fan pretty much everyone liked them because they were funny, but I don't know if that's still the main reason for people who join now ^^
