Our parents are an inescapable part of who we are. They are a cause for our existence, we are a continuation of who they are. So are our grandparents, our great grandparents, and so on. The entire world has come together to this point to make you who you are.
Love yourself, in this we love others. Love others, in this we love ourselves.
I think you would benefit a great deal from reading The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh.
don't know what else to tell you, other than i feel this way all the time. it's terrifying, makes you feel like you're flailing and desperate. turning into bits and pieces of my parents might be okay, but i'll also be damned if i end up with a minivan crammed full of sticky brats in the middle of suburbia. i'll continue being selfish and unsatisfied with mediocrity if you will :)
I don't even know you, and I may sound a bit preachy but there's gotta be something in life for you. You're not your parents, they might have raised you one way but the rest of the growing up is up to you. You're never fully dressed w/o a smile!!

Perhaps work full time for a semester, hord the money, and travel europe for a few months, then go back to school?

but seriously, it's funny to think back on that honors math class we had at north and see how completely hopeless some of us have ended up.

I think I see a direct, causal relationship between Ms. Edenfield and collective dispair.
You might be on to something with that Dan Marino bit, though...
